I would take offense as well. I own a d3100 and I love it. Everyone is right, the art is in the user. With a variety of lenses and a good editing program, I feel I take great pictures and have even won a contest at out local zoo. The great thing about Nikon and starting with the d3200, is as you add gear and lenses they will all fit any other Nikon that you purchase.
Please, by all means don't give up on the Hog. You will find it is a great place to get ideas, troubleshoot problems, not all of us are rude.

I looked for a while trying to decide which cameras to buy. I read ideas from a lot of people on here, and looked at a lot of different cameras and picked up a new nikon d3200. Now I was told by a member, that I should never have gotten the d3200 because its pretty much the bottom of the barrel. Unlike the rest of everyone on here I don't have the money to just drop the 3200 and go buy another camera. So I'll not post anything else on here or brother anyone with questions.

Hope everybody has a great day

I see several others beat me to the punch.
I'm wondering why anybody would make you think that it was a dumb buy? I sometimes shoot with a d40, which preceded the 3200 by a couple of digital decades, and it does everything I usually want. In the end, a camera has to have the ability to let you adjust shutter speed, f-stop, ISO and focus. Everything else is bells and whistles. What do you want to do that you think the d3200 can't do?

nothing wrong with canon either

Your buddy has no idea what he is talking about. The D3200 is not a D4, but it is a quality-oriented, precision piece of technology. Does it have all of the gimmicks and upper-level innovations that a D800 has? No. But neither does it have the price tag of a D800. I have a friend who is a professional. She takes incredible photos - with her iPhone! The majority of the quality comes from the photographer. An enormous amount of the technology is found more in the lenses, than the camera, itself. No one led you astray. Listening to an ignorantly biased individual like your buddy is your only mistake.

Rick, I bought a D40 used, and it does more than I can. So, enjoy a great camera.

I find it odd that one of the topics listed as belonging to Rick57 appears to be attributed to a member by the name of RaydancePhoto.

Rick57 seems disinterested in the 10 pages of encouragement offered by UHH members, whereas RaydancePhoto seems to enjoy the accolades and advice he receives.

What gives?

I have a D3200 and I am happy I bought it. I bought a couple of books specific to the camera to help me learn and understand the camera. I am new at this and have a lot to learn but I am having fun. I know this camera is not in the league that the more expensive cameras are in but has many fine features and serves me well for what I will do with it. Just have fun taking pictures. :-)

someone is always going to have a better, more expensive best of everything camera but that will NOT make them a better photographer, there not a thing wrong with a 3200 , go out have fun and show us some of your pics.

One of the very real, problematic issues with the Net is that the anonymity allows some people to say things they would never say to peoples' faces. And many of these people say things, simply to be heard. No one else will communicate with them in any other way, probably because they offer relatively little to any conversation. ...What do you mean, that's what I am doing now?!?!?

That is utter nonsense and whoever told you that is a snobbish idiot. I have the D3100. It is what I could afford. It does a great job. As with any camera today, though, it is how you use it that counts. Learn all you can. Take lots of photos and be critical of yourself. You will not be disappointed with that camera.
