Why do people assume that I am against PP, quite to the contrary, if done right it looks great. I love HDR if it is not
over done. Photoshop is great, I have CS6 myself, it is what
you like that counts. I just prefer to shoot pictures and leave them as they are, I am not trying to force down your
throat or anybody else for that matter. It is my opinion and
I hope I am allowed to have one.

So the more in camera features one's camera has the more processing that's allowed and the result will still be called a photo. Where did the rule about it having to come out of the camera come from? Was there a burning bush involved?

Okay Hoggers, I'm out. Its been an entertaining one that's for sure. Thank you Racmanaz for the controversial subject. I didn't learn much about photography but I did learn a bit about some of the folks here. Interesting how some of the older vets of this site chimed in then sat back and probably enjoyed the action.

LOL they are smart enough to know not to argue with us foolish people ;)

Ansel Adams is NOT the author of Photography and submitting his name to justify your own lack of Photography skills is not a very good excuse. :)

Adams was an advocate of getting right in the camera and improving it in PP. You need to look at some his interviews on line.

Gessman I knew it was me you were talking about and I
really don't care. I, like everybody else have opinions and
on this forum am allowed to express them, yes even you.
I have been a photographer since 1971,a darkroom camera
man in a few print shops over the years and printing for over 30 years, so I know just a tad about photography.
You are an elitist but it looks like pretty much alone.

LOL. I've been called about everything in the book but in my 77 years this is a first time for me being called an "elitist." There ARE some elite world class photographers from NY, LA, London, etc., who frequent uhh but I certainly am not one of them. I apologize if I said something that was inappropriate for your background and experience but if that's not what I did, and I don't think it is, then perhaps you're taking my comments a little too personally and projecting yourself into a category of people with whom you should not want to identify. If, on the other hand, you choose to identify with them then you probably have a reason. Looking at your Texas sunset shot, it sort of looks to me like maybe nature photography isn't your strong suit.

You know, I could be wrong, but I think it would be a mistake to think I'm alone in my opinion just because I'm the only one willing to take the time to visit with you. Most folks just don't have as much time on their hands as I do. Now, you get the last shot but please don't invoke some mysterious other worldly experience as qualifying your expertise in the photography field. "A picture is worth a thousand words."

use film and get a real photograph, rather than a digital image.

Could it be because of what you said earlier:

"An artist gets it right in the camera."

"I agree Racmanaz, once you PP a photo it is no longer a
photo, it is art. If I can not take a good photo with my
camera I discard it. Photography is only photography when
it comes straight out of the camera."

...bearing in mind that it has not yet been established and universally agreed upon what exactly about photography is "art" and what isn't and it seems to come down to who can holler the loudest and longest. It sure sounds, from what you say, that you have made up your mind. Maybe the world will adopt your standard but I wouldn't hold my breath.

i'd like to clarify, once something is PP'd, it's an image which is not necessarily "art".

Gessman, I identify myself with everybody, I said elitist
because you think you are above everyone else. In 77yrs.
you have not learned humility nor care about anybody but
yourself, you are full of yourself. I am 71yrs. old and on
this site to try to help people and make hopefully some
friends. I don't care what you think about sunset, it is as
good as anything I saw of yours.

I see the problem as you're trying to define subjective terms. One man's art is another man's trash. You all seem to be wanting your "opinions" adopted as fact regardless of the position you take.

Man alive, you know absolutely nothing about me other than the fact that if you spew pure crap out into the air I'll say something to you about it. You're sure going to be a big help to people with your attitude. I'm "full of myself" and you sir, are full of good ol' Texas barnyard ground cover.

Wow, you do know how to twist thing, Gessman, you came
to me or are you to old to remember. You spewed crap about me without you knowing nothing about me. You are
a real piece of work, I got your number, but it's to late for
you.

Would you mind revealing the source for your authoritative information, please, and expand your thinking as to what the alternatives are other than art? There seems to be a fair number of people who do not even think a photograph is art before or after PP'ing. Thank you.

ebbote, you got nothing. I wasn't even talking about or to you originally but since you chased me down and started tossing yourself in with the group I lovingly called "idiots," I decided you probably felt like you needed to be lumped in with 'em so I started treating you like that's where you belong. I'm a long way from being finished but I am done with you.
