Blurry,
the most common and biggest problem associated with a plasma TV is burn-in. This occurs when there seems to be ghosts of the images on the screen. Panasonic has ended production of plasmas and resale value will be lower. I think they are on the way out. The picture is quite good however a Samsung LED is hard to beat. LG comes in close with a comparable picture at a modest price reduction. Sony is overpriced. I did my homework before I purchased my 65" Samsung Smart 3D and am VERY happy with it. No problem at all with viewing at an angle even way across the room. Friends with flat screens are always amazed at the Samsung IQ. With the Smart TV you have access to the internet, web browser, YouTube, Netflix ( a real deal, unlimited movies @ $7.99 monthly), download TV software updates, etc. Bruce is right with his critique. Samsung! Samsung! Samsung!
Blurry, br the most common and biggest problem as... (show quote)

Thanks, it looks definitely like Samsung then... I will look at the TV's tomorrow on their floor and make the final decision between the Smart of the dumb with the roku...

I appreciate all the help, I have not paid a lot of attention to this stuff over the years and it is nice to get advice from you guys, last TV's we purchased were rear projections... Nice TV's but it has all changed sense then... and luckily gotten cheaper.... the TV being replaced was about $3500 new, and not at all worth it by today's standards...

Thanks again.

I had a similar experience. My 12 year old 55" $3,000 Sony projection was due for an update.
The picture was getting fuzzy so I cleaned the lenses and wow, just like new. Very nice picture for a non' HD. Wasted $350 on the warrantee. I gave it away on Craig's List and went for the Samsung. Bpace has a great idea using the Roku3. For $99 you can't beat it.

I have a 62" Samsung and love it. Have had it about 4 years now and no problems as of yet. I can not speak for the Sharp as I never had one. Good luck.

I have replaced the lamp in my Sony for the last time as this time it seems that a lamp alone will not fix the problem...

So in looking at the LED TV's, based on quality/price/budget I have boiled it down to Sharp vs Samsung but can't seem to figure out which is the best buy in the $1000 range. Does anyone have a suggestion?

When it comes to TVs, there is nothing like a Samsung. Out of the box or ten years later. Yes, they are long-lived too.

About 3 years ago we bought a top of the line Sony Bravia 55". It was very good but recently noticed that the picture was not as sharp so we decided to look into a new smart 3D TV. The Sharp TV's look good in the showroom, however, after talking to many people and reading reviews we bought the Samsung 60" Smart 3d LED. We are very happy. The picture difference is even better that our Sony was originally. Hope it lasts longer than the Sony. Of course I may have been as happy with the Sharp.

I live in the UK and am now on my 2nd Samsung HD tv. My present one is the 7000 series also with 3D, very happy indeed. I sold the original one which is still working well for the new owner.

It pretty much connects to the internet and other smart devices using the Wifi in your home... you can control and share content to your Smart TV with your Tablet or Smart Phone... It offers connectivity to Hulu, YouTube, Net Flicks and a variety of other services from your TV's remote.... Many game consoles offer the same connectivity for your TV however I have no interest at all in video games.

I realize that it wasn't one of your choices but I have the one by LG. Absolutely love it, watch TV and flip a switch and can use it as my computer monitor. Never have had any problems with it, at Christmas bought myself a speaker system by Boise that the TV sets on top of. It has Surround Sound beat for sure.

I've got a Sony trinitron in my bedroom that has to be 30 years old. Yeh it's a tube and only 19" but talk about value for your money. I even had it cleaned after our cat upchucked into it one time about ten years ago. still going strong. My wife says we should get a better one for the bedroom. I say Leave it alone or something drastic will happen the day after we replace it. She says I'm "CHEAP" I say I'm FRUGAL

Make sure it's a 1080P, not a 1080 or a 720...
