I use both Mac and Windows but prefer Mac for my creative work. I used to use iPhoto but bought Lightroom when the animal shelter I volunteer at got it for their studio set up.

That was perhaps the best $100 I spent on software. Lightroom lets me organize my photos with multiple keywords and the editing tools are very nice.

The real advantage seems to be when I go back to look for pictures of a particular dog or person. They all pop up with a simple keyword search.

You can get Photoshop Elements for less and get many of the big-bro photoshop included - but you don't get the cataloging capabilities.

I saw someone mention GIMP - which is very cool and opensource. It's a photoshop work-alike - and it is free.

I've been reading through this thread as I am considering going to Elements. I thought Elements (11) included catagloging in th organizer. Not true?

I don't think Element does cataloging - but will be happily surprised if it does. I look forward to hearing more on this thread.

A pay training site called lynda.com has a lot of educational courses that may help you.

Hi Katie

Photoshop elements comes with the organizer which does a pretty good job of keeping track of all your photos. I use it and find it meets my needs, my son on the other hand uses Lightroom 5 and the photoshop cc. He likes Lightroom more than my organizer.

Cool! That makes Elements a cheaper alternative to Lightroom.

Got an IMac 2 years ago. Did not care for iPhoto so went to Aperture. Never looked back. Since I do limited editing Aperture is perfect for me. Always try the help window which can answer many of your questions. But your best bet is one-on-one training direct from Apple.

Got an iMac. Mostly use LR5 . It's a bit of a learning curve . But everything on a computer is. Someday I will find all this stuff more intuitive.
