Good Afternoon UHH family;

I am looking to purchase a 24-105mm f/4l IS Canon Lens, B&H and Adorama list this lens around 1,200.00. There is a company by the name of, IBcart.com who list the price of this lens at $595.00. Has any member had any dealings with this company? Need help before I leap.

Canon refurb lists this great lens for $919.20. That price is probably the lowest for a non-used version that is available. Personally, I would have serious reservations about the offer you mention. At present there is nothing listing for IBart.com. GL, be cautious ... 8-) :roll: :roll:

I took a quick look and I don't see Ibart selling anything themselves. They are simply a front door(pimp) for a whole bunch of other web sites including Canon, Target and some lesser known(to me) sites with some selling new and other used or refurbished.

I also took a look at the site, Ibart. I is what the previous poster said, just a store front. I did delve into the site a little deeper, and found one of the stores listing the lens, to be 42d Street Photo. I bought a few things from them myself. They do under cut the big names but you have to buy over priced kits for your lens. The lens I bought there was a "open box" item, probably returned and resold, rather returned to the manufacturer. I would look for a listed store, check their record, and call them directly. Maybe there is some bait and switch going on.

Thanks,
Maybe we need to create a "Do not buy from" list of these companies to keep our fellow UHH members alerted.

Be careful.. because retail people KNOW their clients (for the most part don't know anything about photography) they will sell you a less then half and then order for you... then they bump your up in price when they tell you it is on back order.. NO BODY sells a new $1000 lens for $500... think about it. :o)

I bought a white box copy of that lens a few month ago for under $700. Don't recall if I found it at Amazon or Ebay. Either way, the lens was new and in perfect working order.

I talked to a Canon Rep at the camera store a couple years ago about this situation. He said Canon keeps the pricing the same on new, and refurbished equipment. But, for refurbished equipment through another source is not price controlled. This means if you buy from a Canon registered seller, he must sell Canon product at their price only. If you buy Canon items from a non-Canon seller they may sell items at any price they choose. So, if you buy a lens from a seller who is not a agent of Canon, and is not refurbished by Canon, they may charge as the wish.

Thanks,
That's great information. It helps a lot. I usually buy Canon at a camera store in Houston, Tx, I think I'll just stay with them.
Thanks again,

I tried to look these guys up on ResellerRatings.com & got a message that they don't participate in customer feedback; NOT a good sign.

I may not have read every post so what is the chance that the lens was used and possibly a more realistic reason for the deep discount? If allegedly new I have a heavy dose of skepticism. If you found a philanthropist drop us his ame. :)

8-) 8-) 8-) This post will float in both directions, and neither mindset is going to give credence to the other point of view. I just want to point out that not too long ago this same "lens" was being offered on ebay for a similar price. More than one buyer was stung to receive a coffee mug made to look just like the lens. If it quacks like a duck ... :lol: :lol: :lol:
