Good Afternoon UHH family;

I am looking to purchase a 24-105mm f/4l IS Canon Lens, B&H and Adorama list this lens around 1,200.00. There is a company by the name of, IBcart.com who list the price of this lens at $595.00. Has any member had any dealings with this company? Need help before I leap.

Never heard of them. If they are less than 1/2 price, there is something wrong. You are not getting the same lens.

At the absolute least it has got to be grey market! 1/2 the price is just too good to be true and I wouldn't touch it.

I just bought that lens from Amazon for $709 in the white box. It is brand new as advertised and has a 1 yr warranty. I truly trust Amazon. I received it Fri. just 5 days later after ordering it.

Thanks,
Maybe we need to create a "Do not buy from" list of these companies to keep our fellow UHH members alerted.

We'd all probably like to see this, but it invokes problems. Not all of us, for example, agree. Since it would become an official UHH Blacklist, it might open our site to lawsuits. Innocent retailers might be hurt because of unreasoning anger from a dissatisfied buyer.

I kinda' like this subject handled like it is now: a personal interchange of info between UHH'ers.

Good morning jln_tc, I would call Canon up and ask them about the lens and tell them the dealer that is advertising this lens. Yes I am sure they will offer you the same lens from their Refurbed department which is fantastic too. the Refurbed lenses and gear are usually over-stocked items from their dealers that they could not sell. You will get the item as it were brand new with the same warranty but at a lot less priced. The chances are that the company you are looking at is selling a grey market area lens which means it (lens) will not be warrantied by Canon here in the USA. I bought a 17-40mm f/4L Ultra Wide Angle lens from Refurbed department at a price of $550.00 with a warranty. Great Lens!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK

Having been burned twice since buying on line I'm a little jaded. Adorama, B&H and Amazon. When buying from Amazon I usually try and only select a high rated vendor.

Cameta is also a great place. One place I've used recently is Roberts Camera for a refurbished unit.

Its buyer beware and has been for a long time. If its too good to be true it most likely is.

it probably comes with a 50/50 warranty: if it breaks in half, you get to keep both parts! stay away....any offer which looks too good is not for real.....

That is the way to do it, off list. And when question arises post as "you may want to review, no claim of accuracy or
correctness. All are unverified claims made by others."

Be aware that if they are truly unscrupulous type, the company may have a clause in their purchase agreement that creates a fine system, if you were to say anything publicly in a negative way about them. More and more companies are doing things of this kind, in order to combat the negative reporting that is frequently occurring on the Net. There was a very widely publicized story about a completely crooked outfit that had such a clause in their purchase agreement, and when the couple could not get either the purchase or their money back, they published a complaint on the net and were taken to court by the company. Whether or not they win is almost academic, because its going to cost them a fairly large amount in legal fees just a combat it.

Unless they're selling a used and worn version of this lens - stay away. In fact like a previous poster stated, "run the other way."
