Please go ahead I admire your edits, but you have tell what you did.
First of all, as a guy who spent 20 years of his life going to sea while in the Navy, I love the title of this work. There is nothing quite as "electric" as being out in the water during heavy weather.
- I selected the sky and ran Noiseware Professional in Landscape mode to remove some of the detail in the clouds, and soften their edges. I added just a shade of light, not to brighten the sky, but to ameliorate some spots that were too black.
- Straightened the horizon
- Added some structure so as to accentuate the patterns of water and sunglint
- Placed an off-center light source just forward of the vessel, indicating a return to safe-haven, and fleeing the darkness behind.
- Matted using colors drawn from within the photo
Variation on In before the storm

Hello Emm5, this is a excellent image, I'm not normally a fan of selective colouring. With this image it works really well, it's subtleness overcomes my lack of enthusiasm for selective colouring. The tonal range throughout the image is good, I love the sky. Uuglypher has mentioned cropping some of the bottom, this does work and, I think, improves the picture. But if you prefer the image the way it is then it is sill a very fine image.
Well done,
Graham
Thanks Graham much appreciated! I myself am not a fan of selective coloring .
Originally wanted to do this in black and white but the boat just looked to dark. I will have to go back and try again .

I love it! Thank you also love the framing I think will re tweak this (my version) and print and frame in your style.

Come t'think of it, the reason I like your treatment so much is that, having observed countless tugboats in N.Y. harbor on deeply overcast days such as the one pictured, oftentimes the only colors that seem not to be mutted almost to desaturation are the reds or yellows of the boats that are red or yellow!

Playing around with this picture not sure what to do with it.
Does this treatment work?
I think it's a terrific photo, I wouldn't change a thing. Well composed/exposed. I really like the processing and color treatment, makes an individual character out of everyone on the boat including Miss Statue of Liberty, who is a really fun surprise to find when you begin to look at the details. Please leave her in there! It almost has a Norman Rockwell feel to it, only with a current style. Not one you can look away from easily, it really hooks you.

I really like the selective stuff, providing it is not overdone, of course! If the right details are zapped, it can give a great punch to the photo. I wouldn't want to look at a ton of them all at once, but one in a while is good. I am working on mastering it myself, so you may see more of mine in the future to not like very much... :D

Thank you really appreciate the compliment. Miss liberty is staying on deck !
It's kind of fun when people discover she is on deck so to speak.
