In addition to convenience, this backup technique avoids plugging and unplugging SD cards and cables, so it's inherently less risky. You end up with all pix in 2 different places, one in your phone which almost everyone carries with them anyhow. After a burst of shots, the transfer process may continue for a while, but it very robust and I never lost any backups of thousands of pictures.

The Canon 70D has wifi. I want to keep things simple and just have a basic backup to my SD cards while on vacation without having to lug around my laptop. Also, I don't want to fiddle with The Cloud.

I agree with not fiddling with the cloud! Using Eye-Fi as I described goes directly from the Eye-Fi card to an Eye-Fi app on your phone...nowhere else. I'm sure you can set up the 70D to work that way as well. :)

I'm one of those "dinosaurs" that still has a dumb phone, so using Wifi in that application is at least a year away. But when tablets under $200 start to have SD slots instead of micros, I can duplicate photos and video that way, too. I'm tired of lugging around my laptop just to duplicate photos, and on many of my kinds of trips, I cannot assume that the hotels will have computers to download to a mini hard drive.

There are portable,rechargable, battery powered devices with a hard drive that you can plug your compact flash directly into.
I have one made by Creative Labs called ZEN. I no longer use it because it was designed for use with Windows XP and does not support the Windows 7 operating system. (No update in firmware expected) Ask your local camera store about one or call Adorama Camera, I'm sure somebody still makes one.
Coincidentally, I bought mine for a trip to Italy in 2007. It turned out to be our favorite vacation ever. It's like the whole country is set up for a photo shoot.

I strongly recommend taking at least 3 memory cards. Rotate them out. The cards are so cheap and it is so not worth risking loss or damage. You even have a place on the card to write a brief note to give you some idea of what is on that particular card. Go to Best Buy. They always have cards on sale in sizes from 8 - 128gb, and will even price match sites like Amazon & B&H.

I use multiple SD cards, but every night I off load all my pictures to my 128 GB iPad. When I get home I transfer all the pictures from my iPad to my computer.

It has been a while, but did you find a solution that didn't require you to travel with a laptop or tablet?

Thanks for sharing. But I currently used another backup software i.e CloudBacko pro. Its provides free space on Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox into a single large storage. Through CloudBacko pro it is very easy to restore the data. I also try to use Comodo Backup. Keep updating.http://www.cloudbacko.com/
