I would like to backup from my SD card while travelling in Italy and would prefer to not bring a laptop. Can I do this if I buy a portable hard drive?

No. But if you get one of the pads you could put it on that and even put in cloud storage.

How about a 32gig Nexus 7? very compact and lots of storage. You would also need to get a very inexpensive USB to mini USB convertor lead.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm going for 10 days and shoot
RAW files. Typical file is 30 mb from my Nikon d7100. So I could store about 1000 images. That might be cutting it close.

One assumes you will not be putting all your eggs in one basket and only using ONE card

Steve,
Check with B&H. I am going to Ireland this spring and will be doing the same thing. I bought a stand alone hard drive that takes
my Canon card and copies direct. Less than a $100 and small.

Hope this helps. RDF

You can buy a hard drive with a screen and a port for an SD card. From reviews I've read, their reliability is questionable. I use a netbook and an external drive, both small and cheap.

extra cards.small and fairly cheep. If you but 2 32 gig cards in seems to me you got a lot off storage unless every one is a keeper .

Right! As an experiment, I have kept all my travel pictures from August on two SD cards, having used them in several different cameras. I keep using the cards, and they keep saving images. No formatting for different cameras. So far, so good.

I use 2 sd 32 95 mb/s card in both camera and it may be a little overkill but I know I'll never have to do like I had to once.Run to a store and buy one because didn't have enough storage

That should provide room for more pictures than you would want to review. :D

Hi Steve, I usually take my netbook for backup and viewing, but I also take lots of SD cards and when they are full, I insert another into my camera. A few spare SD cards should mean you can get away without any back up method. Just make certain you keep used cards somewhere very secure.
