I'd never tried the Picassa movie maker, so I gave it a try. In less than 10 minutes I had a short slide presentation with music.
I did not try burning a DVD. But, I did find out how to do it, with the limitations highlighted at the bottom of the page.

ProShow Gold, from Photodex is what I use to create slide shows. It's a very easy interface and allows you to make shows in a number of different ways. You can add your slides to the program and allow the software to create your show - or you can have complete control over the design and output.
I think the website is
www.photodex.com, but you can also Google Proshow Gold.

Fotomagico is another one that I use. Can burn to DVD or your iPad or other choices. Works very well once you get the hang of it.
Once I save a movie in Movie Maker I save it to the computer, then Right click>"Send to> DVD drive> to a DVD disc", then I am able to watch it on any DVD player. I am using a PC. I would imagine you can do the same thing on a Mac, but I am not very familiar with them. I was taught to File> save as an email in Movie Maker. I don't know if this makes any difference.
I hope this helps.
