Just so you know, the bridge is under construction and part of it is covered by tarps.

I don't know the status of the promenade is but the Brooklyn is one of those that you can walk across. Great pics of the superstructure are available as well as the city. If it is not covered by tarps it's a great photo location. Some other venues to capture bridges are - Astoria park ( Triborough Bridge as well as the Hellgate. Long Island City along the East river for the 59st bridge. Downtown Brooklyn along Flatbush Ave for the Manhattan also DUMBO for the Manhattat Dumbo is not an elephant but it's an achronism for Down Underneath The Manhattan Bridge Overpass. The B.Q.E. the brooklyn queens expressway offers some of the best views of the east side' During rush hour it's one of the busiest roads in the city. Traffic is very slow. So if tou are a passenger great shots are possible

Lenny, just under the bridge, you will find a nice little Ice Cream shop. A little sitting area with stone patio and a decorative fence. From here capture the skyline across the bridge. I Used 16mm on a dx format so your 14mm will be fine, you can always crop. I set the camera in Aperture Priority, around F/9 to F/13 set ISO200 then took my shots. If to light use your exposure compensation controls to darken or lighten to taste. The longer the shutter speed the more silky look to the water. You have about a 15 minute window to capture the best light.
Lenny, just under the bridge, you will find a nice... (show quote)

Can you give me the name or address of the of the ice cream shop so I can Google map it. I will be going to NY soon and would like to try and get a photo from that spot. You can PM me if you want. Thanks.

I was on the Brooklyn side, looking back towards Manhattan.

There are several locations near or at the South St. Seaport. I do not know if all of the shops there are open at night. I agree with Fred B on lens choices. If memory serves correctly, it was on the opposite side of the bridge of fstop22's photo.

[quote=jerryc41]We have a Skytop Steakhouse near us. They have a huge sign of neon lights on top of a mountain. It seemed there was always a letter or two burned out, and it became more and more difficult to get neon people to do the repairs. They finally went with a huge LED sign - and now they have burned out letters.

Nothing beats the porterhouse for 2 at Skytop. I have been to some of the top (very expensive)steak houses in NYC and been disappointed numerous times, but Skytop has the flavor and quality, at a great price that I expect. I could do without the loud live bands, though.

As far as the Brooklyn Bridge goes, I'm looking at it right now out of my office window. That said, IMHO a 50mm should capture the beauty that my eyes are seeing now.

Just thought of other landmarks you shouldn't miss. The Chrysler bldg. This is the most spectacular art-deco buildings in the world Both inside and out. Each elevator is decorated with amazing woodwork and each is different. Grand Central Terminal (not station)There is no more spectacular "lobby" in the City. Empire State of course. 5Th Ave from 125 th south to the Arch. WARNING don't let your wife leave the care on 5th . Gotta see Times Square. Too many to name any more.
