WOOOOOOOOOOO - another who enjoys the infamous 13th step. I have been working step programs for 24 yrs and for 22 of those years I have been struggling with G.A.S. around camera equipment. My latest was not the purchase of a 500 mm lens but the purchase of a $40 adapter to put a 500 mm mirrored FD lens to work on my OES Canon rebel.

the compulsion was so over whelming that I could not help myself. Ordered Sigma 150-500 from B&H. The Big Brown truck will be here tomorrow. Does anyone know if there is a 12 step program to help overcome this compulsion?
Just bought one through Greentoe. $890.00 less $100 rebate from Sigma will make it $790. Big Brown truck is scheduled for today!
Keep looking out the window!!!
Nope,it's already too late.Good luck with that.
You could get a solar charger!

A one step program is called unemployment. No money to buy, no buy... It works quite well.
Another alternative is a large wife with a 4-foot 2X4 standing guard over a lock box with your credit cards in it that only she has the combination to.
Third method: Stay in a drunken coma so you can't see websites or shopping carts on the computer screen.
I got to the 11th step, then saw a Minolta 300mm f2.8 with a 1.4 tc for $2500 on ebay. Sharp as a tack with my Sony A77. What a lens and now I think I'm back to step 1.
Been looking since 1955. No joy yet.

Forget about a cure. An old Datsun (now Nissan) ad for the 240Z said it all: "If it itches, scratch it". I've used that rational many times for my photography and amateur radio wants. Also, keep in mind that the lens probably cost a lot less than your funeral so enjoy life to the max as long as possible.
This is kind of drastic but have you tried getting married. Hope this helps.

Been there twice. Photography and equipment is cheaper in the long run. I have yet to hear one pice of equip. say "You dont send me flowers any more, or we never go out to eat, or you forgot our anniversary, AGAIN".
There has been about 10 of these post in the last two months.
They are simply stupid. Stupid. Stupid.
