Don't you know? That's how it starts! First, it's a little nature hike. Then a little landscape here and there. Then the things that live IN that landscape. Well, those things are birds. And birds are tiny. They're hard to see, let alone photograph. Ahhhhh, then you think, "if only I had an 800mm lens". Well, those lenses are $10,000, USED!
Oh well, a man's gotta do, what a man's gotta do, and we can't take it with us. SS

Then at some point you will probably want to start low light, night, stars, micro, astro, etc photography.

HANG ON - it's a great ride.

I tend to look at all the old photos of places we don't usually think of.i'm glad someone took the time 50 or so years ago to take a picture and allow me to see and feel what it was like then.your picture of the bowl that is being torn down won't be there for people to see and remember.i took some pictures of two old houses at least 75 yrs old that were torn down about 6 months later.a small bus stop replaced them but I can see and remember when the old houses were there.i always say, take the picture you never know when you will want to look back.

Hahahaha.......so far birds haven't interested me. If birds interested me, i might as well go back to portrait shooting. Landscape doesn't have to pose.

I think i have all the gear that i need for landscape and architectural.
There's nothing on my want list. I have everything i ever wanted.

Am i doomed? Is there any hope for me?

I agree, birds do not interest me either. However, there is much more to nature/landscape photography. I would suggest you consider macro photography. This will open a whole new perspective on how you see things.

Nice shots - Saw Simon & Garfunkle do a reunion concert in the Rubber Bowl a number of years back.

Next time you find yourself in Akron, they have a wonderful Metropark system to explore and you are on the doorstep of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Some very nice waterfalls there.

i am a portrait and product photographer..this was my first try at it. i have no idea what i was trying to achieve. as a matter of fact, this type of photography i do not know a thing about. i had no idea what i was even doing.

i'll get better as i go....supposed to be a great weekend up here in the UP, i'll get lots of practice.

i'll post some pics as i go along.

thanks for the criticism. i appreciate it.

i know exactly where you mean. the metro park in cuyahoga falls is where my wife and i had our first date. it was beautiful.

i am in akron about 4 to 6 times a year. my wife's family is all in that area, then we head to cincinnati area where my 2 kids live.

thanks for the beautiful photo.

you are exactly right. things change so fast around us...a photo is the only thing that makes time stand still.

the other day one of the guys here where i work brought in some old photos of the area. i noticed one that really caught my eye. the ground level was even with the road 40 years ago.......the house is still standing, but the ground level now is about 8 feet below the road level. there's hundreds of old iron ore mine shafts all over up here....without the photo, no one would have noticed. I was alarmed, but was told that's "normal".

photos tell the story.

i am going to start taking more and more photos. it's a shame i waited until i was 61 to get into this!!!

i am not a hiker or a back packer.......if i can't see it from the road, i'll leave those shots for you!!! hahahahaha

so your spots are safe.

i have always liked to see old barns, old churches and just old buildings. gonna look into those to photograph. there's tons of falling down old barns up here in northern michigan and northern wisconsin.

maybe it's because i am old and i relate to old things.

i am just glad my wife likes old stuff.

I too enjoy photographing old, derelict buildings, be they barns, houses or churches, they have so much character.

Just finished up my vacation and last stop was Akron, Ohio, visiting relatives. My wife then took a 4 day bus tour to NYC with her mother. I was kinda bored sitting around so I decided to go out and do some landscape/architectural type photography. I never really did much of it and usually that was as boring as watching paint peeling. I have to say I really got in to it. I photographed the old rubber bowl stadium that will soon be tore down, the goodyear blimp hangar, my wife's grandad's old farm, etc....like i said, I really started to get in to it.

wow....no turn your head, smile, move your arm, take one step this way, open your eyes, etc....

I have to say I was definitely in to it.

Now that i am back home in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, i am going to take some nature hikes and photograph some of it's beauty.

It turned out to be a great vacation!
