I agree 100% Am I going to pay for a product $240 a year for the rest of my life when all I want to do is pretend that I know how to take a photograph. Wait next year it will be $30 a year, arrogant!

Let me get this straight, in the future now Photoshop CS is only available through cloud subscribtion? Individuals, meaning most photographers in general, will only be able to get Photoshop Elements (in my opinion a rotten program)? Sounds like the collapse of photography and the camera business as we know it, just to satiate their greed?

As far as I'm concerned Adobe makes great products. BUT their company ethics stink and their customer service is worse.
I do not intend using the Cloud system but instead will convert to another editing software solution.
If you think Adobe is hard to deal with in the USA try doing it in Australia. They won't sell to you via the internet if you live in Australia, so you can't just download the software, and the price variation is horrific. CS5 costs US$600.00 in America - the same product in Australia is A$1200.00 - and that was when the A$ was worth US$1.15 so the equivalent price in US dollars would have been US$1380.00. This is the straw that broke the Camels back.

Have you complained to ADOBE USA about the price difference, or is it because of AU taxes on software?

Thank you, I probably am the worst photographer on earth but do enjoy the hobby and after spending over the years $1200 including upgrades, it is like a slap in the face for someone who loves the product.

True, they never sold us the products, but we didn't have to make payments forever afterward to use them. They charge enough to begin with.

Thank you, are you a member of the Abobe team.

Adobe never sold you the product in the past either, they only licensed you to use it, you have never owned it. It is this way with most software companies, read the screens when installing instead of simply hitting "I Agree" and paging through them.

I have never used Elements, have been using Photoshop CS versions for years but will never go to Adobe's ripoff cloud. I will need to switch to something other than PS when my computer dies so I am wondering why you say Elements is rotten. What is it that you do not like about it?

You can keep using the version of Photoshop you have- it just won't be supported with upgrades. Adobe ACR and DNG upgrades will still be available, as they'll be needed for Elements, Lightroom and Photoshop. Elements basically takes things from Photoshop and simplifies them into "actions" rather than multiple layer processes. You should be able to now buy CS6 and use it for a few years until platform improvements make it obsolete. You can then decide to dedicate an older computer to continue running it, and export the PSD files into newer versions of Lightroom or Elements on whatever new platform is running at that time. Make sense?

I understand all that and appreciate your reply, but I am wondering what the specific complaints about Elements are. The use of actions instead of step by step layer processes seems significant but are there any other major drawbacks to that software? For example, does it lack things such as Levels, Curves, Blending Modes etc? Thanks again for the reply.

Look at GIMP - it's free and can do a hell of a lot from basic editing to animations, drawing and design. There will be some learning to do but Shakey put up a lot of tutorials here on the 'Hog' -

and I just found an amazing list of tutorials I put up today -

from the Gimp Forum. And the latest version, Gimp 2.8, has just been released.

Hope that saves you a buck!

It does lack layers and levels, but you already have them in the version of Photoshop you have. Adobe said they'd keep supporting CS6 Photoshop for the future as long as computer platforms will allow it, and it is for sale. The July 2013 issue of Rangefinder has a large article on this. The opinion is that Elements and Lightroom will be expanded for photographers as Photoshop evolves into a leased Commercial design product. It will even out cash flow for Adobe and still meet the needs of the photographic public.
