I am just wondering your opinion on the Creative Cloud for us Photoshop users. Personally I can't see paying a monthly fee to have constant upgrades. I am quite upset with Adobe does anyone else agree or is this just the way it is. I usually upgrade Photoshop every two years at $199.00 by now if I want any new upgrades it will cost me $480.00 every two years, without ever owning the product. P.S. At least with a cell phone plan you own the phone after a two or three year contract. Why would I pay Adobe for three years monthly fees and walk away with nothing when it comes to software. I would appreciate any thoughts on the matter.

Adobe never sold you the product in the past either, they only licensed you to use it, you have never owned it. It is this way with most software companies, read the screens when installing instead of simply hitting "I Agree" and paging through them.

True, they never sold us the products, but we didn't have to make payments forever afterward to use them. They charge enough to begin with.

We've been through this one a few times here. I for one will continue to use what I have and they can keep their cloud.

According to Adobe, only their cloud versions of photoshop will be upgraded. I'm not sure of their existing Bridge app which runs inside PS. As new cameras and proprietary RAW formats are released if they will continue to upgrade Adobe Bridge or not?

I have Adobe Cloud at #32. a month, I can download every thing Adobe makes. I have CS6, lightroom, and that all I need for now. Try it and see what you get for your money.

I pay a fee to be some kind of specialty situation with my Elements 11 that provides 20GB backup of my photos, plus tutorials narrated by a person with poor diction, etc. That would be good if I could select the photos to back up, but it backs up all of my shots...change of exposure, HDR's I do not use, different angles, etc. Before I knew it I had used the 20 GB and am not thinking of buying more.
I do use Carbonite.

This is the way things are going now and I guess we can't stop it. I know that you said your upgrades are $200/year for CS but the upgrade for CS Extended is $300/year. So that's $600/2 years and the $480 for CC over a 2 year period doesn't seem that bad since it includes all the features of Extended and it upgrades all the time with new features. The problem I see is that once they have you hooked into the monthly subscription they don't have much incentive to make "great" improvements to their products.

I understand completely. The changes being made in the software industry are simple. You can no longer buy a software program and license you must lease it. Microsoft is doing the same thing with many of its most profitable and widespread programs. Now, the software developer can continue to make money on an annual basis from its customers. Where an investment of a couple of hundred dollars could be usable for years it now has a time limit.

I heard someone from Adobe speak on this subject. It is beneficial to studios and organizations with more than 5 computers- less expensive to lease "the Cloud" than to pay semi annual or annual upgrades for each unit. It is NOT as cost effective for individual users. That is why Elements and Lightroom, considered "Prosumer" products" will be still made available on a purchase program. ACR updates cover both programs, so will be available to all, as new cameras are introduced.

As far as I'm concerned Adobe makes great products. BUT their company ethics stink and their customer service is worse.
I do not intend using the Cloud system but instead will convert to another editing software solution.
If you think Adobe is hard to deal with in the USA try doing it in Australia. They won't sell to you via the internet if you live in Australia, so you can't just download the software, and the price variation is horrific. CS5 costs US$600.00 in America - the same product in Australia is A$1200.00 - and that was when the A$ was worth US$1.15 so the equivalent price in US dollars would have been US$1380.00. This is the straw that broke the Camels back.

Let me get this straight, in the future now Photoshop CS is only available through cloud subscribtion? Individuals, meaning most photographers in general, will only be able to get Photoshop Elements (in my opinion a rotten program)? Sounds like the collapse of photography and the camera business as we know it, just to satiate their greed?
