They stopped making them because Hollywood found out the actors and even the crews were having too much fun riding horses in the desert, Wyoming and other setting of Americas granduer.

My dad did stunts in a couple Tom Mix movies. I have a very faded picture of him on a set during a break.

Tell me you agree with me that John Wayne was the best. Make my day.

I love The Duke to death but I have to say Eastwood nudges him ever so slightly from my top shelf.

I'm also really tired of all the reality shows. I assume that they are much cheaper to produce as they don't have high priced actors or sets.

Reality shows, laugh tracks, all take something away from real entertainment, be it an old John Wayne or some of the TV from the 50's. I miss Benny and Sid Ceaser, and Red. The crap we are fed today is loaded with special effects to make up for the lack of plot or acting, TV with so called reality which is just poorly done with so much repeated padding and just a little filler for the endless stream of commercials. Hell,we even get a stream of commercials when we pay 10 bucks to go to a movie. You have to wonder if there is a plan to it all. No one tries to do better. it is like they want to see how little they have to do to get bye. Say that is like our politicians too.

In the late 40's our local theater had the Roy Rogers Club on Saturdays. For 20 cents you got to see the serial and they had drawings. If you got a quarter you could also get a box
of ju ju bees. After the movie we would play cowboys. A broken stick was you horse. We would round up the bad guys stage a fake fight. Then gather in the corral and sing a song
just like our heroes:Roy Gene Tom Bob Gabby Hoot Champion and Trigger, and who could forget "Dig Dirt Tony". Looking back boy these heroes could NOT act.

When you think about it you can see why they don't make them anymore, They're racist, violent, they have guns, booze, gambling, prostitution.
Don't care, still love them.

I have a collection of most of the really good westerns.

I ran the cameras at the local theater, with dad. I from when I was 12-18, and we ran a lot of old silent shorts movies, before the main ones. The earliest actor I ever saw was Bronco Billy Anderson. He died in '71 at the age of 90. The one show that I do remember him in was Raffles, the Amateur Cracksman. I cannot, for the life of me, remember what the short was about, because I was so busy continually repairing the nitrate film. That reel was just about all repairs, no film left. Ha.

I vote for Charles Bronson. Mainly for 'once upon a time in the west" Great movie and story and loved the music. Oh it is also, as far as I can recall, the only movie Henry Fonda played a BAD GUY and man was he a bad guy. shot a kid because one of Franks men called Frank by name.

I’d have to vote John Wayne as the best but much of his success was in the quality of the people around him, directors, producers, editors, writers and so on. One guy I just loved was Jack Elam, great character actor along with guys like Ben Johnson, Dub Taylor and Strother Martin all made John Wayne’s movies great. John Wayne stood the test of time starting in 1930 and made his final western in 1976, an amazing career.

They can't even make a Lone Ranger movie as good as the TV show. Clayton Moore IS the Lone Ranger and Jay Silverheels IS Tonto.

John Wayne made a better western when he was dying than Hollywood could even attempt to make today.
