Corel's PSP X5 is being heavily promoted, in part as a result of Adobe's Cloud policy
I own PSE11.
Does PSP X5 offer me any significantly greater capabilities than I already have with PSE 11?

PSE11 has nothing to do with the Creative Cloud. The CC is aimed at those who make a living with all or several of Adobe's products.

PSP X5 and PSE11 are not aimed at that market.

Both Elements products are not, and probably won't be, part of the Creative Cloud. They are pointless for those that make a living at graphic arts.

PSP X5 and PSE11 are aimed at hobby photographers who may have expensive cameras and computers but don't think they should spend much on software.

My view of the difference is not technical. PSE seems to have far more "training" available. It ranges from well written books to video tutorials done by pros. There are plenty of free YouTube tutorials.

I've not used PSP, but for the price if would be fun to try just for the entertainment.

If you did not already own PSE 11, PSP X5 might be almost as good for less money. But it's not better.

I own both programs. I would not say that one is "better" than the other. They are similar in a number of ways, but also a bit different in their approach to editing. Both programs are good, but I do use PS Elements more often.

Download the free trial and make sure you get the ultimate version. Try it out and I think you will find that PSP X5 Ultimate is much much more than just entertainment.

I should have written "for the entertainment of learning something new". In other words, to me learning is a high form of entertainment. I do not mean to imply entertainment like in the form of watching cartoons. I certainly intended no silliness.

I have both programs and I tend to use PSP more often, as it is easier to use.

Thank you! Explanation accepted. Sorry I portrayed that you thought so little of the program. It is a fun program that is relatively easy to learn and much more powerful than many adobecrats give it credit. I just get a little bent out of shape when I see so many having trouble getting PSE or PS to do what they want when they could have PSP to do all they need for less money, less trouble, and much easier learning curve. Have a GREAT DAY!

bsprague sorry to hear that you are a learning addicted, the curse is that it will stave off dementia and Alzheimer!! You will live long and have to endure ever changing music and have to hear political ranting year after year....ooooh! Ouch!

I have both PSP X5 ultimate and PSE... I never use PSE any more, not a conscious decision,,, it was a drift,,, I find that PSP is powerful and has an excellent on line learning AND you can chose "learning center" (under help menu) which when you click on a tool it tells you how to use the tool and what it does. Corel also has on line learning at the Corel site.

I would add that you can get the Topaz Labs package and it is an amazing add-on to any edit program that is compatible with PS Plugin. Their sub-programs are amazing and work magic. Thus far, Topaz has never charged for an upgrade/update. They have a active Webinar program and have archives. Topaz gives discounts for watching an on line webinar and also holiday discounts,,, last was 4th July for 40%. They have a stand-alone program that allows you to use any of their sub-programs quickly jumping back and forth. The re-mask is the top rated masking program...really easy and effective.

I have Photoshop CS6 and Paint Shop Pro X5 Ultimate. Paint Shop can do everything that CS6 can do (despite what avid Photoshoppers think) and I find it easier to use. The price difference is astronomical so, Paint Shop wins on most counts as far as I am concerned.

WRONG!!!! PSP will not bolster your ego in a room full of PSC people who think only Nikon and Canon make acceptable Cameras... DebAnn have you never heard of heresy? Repent Girl,, you reputation as a photographer is at stake... Mortgage your home, sell your body ... what ever it takes to buy Photoshop CS6!! NOT

I love my PSP X-5, my Topaz, my Sony DSLR, and my Panasonic DMC ZS-20 is on my body 24/7 always ready for a shot.

DebAnn I ABSOLUTELY AGREE with you fully,,, I was making parody (or trying) of the Photoshopians and the Nikon/Canon people who fail to see other products as possibly being worth while.. and look down their nose at people who think otherwise.

o you recall when Nortons was the big dollar king of computer care/antivirus... and now like other arrogant companies they have slid to the pit of being $0 with rebate.
