They must have formed a committee to come up with that name. How can anyone object to something called "The Patriot Act"? It would be like objecting to apple pie or baseball or the flag. Looking back in history, it's not unheard of having citizens report on each other.

Jerry, I remember a situation a long time ago, it happened in the 40's or 50's but it goes like this. The Russian's were not allowed to listen to Radio Free Europe and it was a crime if caught. Well, a kid turned his parents into the secret police for doing this and were arrrested convicted and sent to a gulag. The child was praised as a hero for the motherland. An uncle wound up killing the kid for his action against his parents. The Russians in power gave the child a heros send off with a lot of grandure.

American papers got wind of this story and really lambasted the Russian government for turning family members against one another for the good of the country (aka government). The cold war stuff. They also praised how America would never do that. Land of the Free. The cold war stuff.

If you look at today we are exactly in the same boat. Everywhere there is anonymous call in's in places' for everything. That sign on this post says it very clearly.

We have imported many things from China, looks like we bought into, and imported their method of controlling people by turning each other in, family or not!

Idiotic. It's amazing how much freedom we've lost protecting our freedom. Why bother? Big Brother tells us to report suspicious looking photographers and then some a**hole blows up a bunch of innocent people with a freakin' pressure cooker full of nails. If I didn't know that most feds are too freaking incompetent to tie their own shoes, I'd think it was all a grand conspiracy.

It is.

A couple of weeks ago I came back from a reunion of an disbanned outfit I was in the military, and we were touring various locations around Quantico and Washington DC. We were to have a tour inside the Pentagon, but it was canceled at the last second for no known reason. We decided to go to the Pentagon Memorial anyway because of the freed up time. While there, one of our group, was off by himself at the memorial, and was taking pictures of the Pentagon where the plane had crashed into it. All of a sudden a security gaurd yelled at him to stop taking pictures. He, as well as most of our group is hard of hearing. (Age and the many blasts from the 106 Recoiless rifles we crewed, as well as many other high noise explosions.) He didn't hear the guard, so the guard repeated it. Still not hearing, and heeding, two guards came running out of the guard shack with MP4's cocking them and charging at him. When he finally noticed their approach, he raised his arms and and said easy, easy, I'm a US Treasury agent. Allow me to get my badge out of my pocket. Which he did.

When we were on the bus later we discussed why such authorian reaction. To whit: the building has been there since 1942, were we in a memorial area, out side their fensed protected area, the actual Pentagon is at least 300 yards or more likely 500 from the memorial area, there are air planes flying directly over head all the time as they take off from Dallas air port. Funny thing is a couple of days later right on the TV was a picture of the pentagon taken from a plane as it was circling the pentagon, and a fairly close view. Just what are they protecting?

The cancelation may have to do with Prince Harry and other dignitaries that showed up, but we were allowed to take pictures of them without fear of being shot, even though the secret service cleared an area around them.

Our America is not so free anymore.

Folks we haven't been a free nation for quite a while. We incarcerate more of our own people than any nation that has ever exited. Mostly for victimless crimes. some kid smoking pot, some girl or guy selling their body, or some other law that legislates morality. Our constitution has been out the window for a long time now. The police can search you if they have reasonable cause. Reasonable cause being that you told them "no" when they asked if they could search you. People being stopped on the street when they are just walking down the street. If as an American Citizen you are accused of terrorism you are no longer entitled to a trial. we give protection to the big corporations because we know that what they are doing is harming people and the environment. We are not a free nation. We give up the right to be free every time we vote for the incumbent or don't vote at all. It is not going to get any better until we regain control of our government. The only peaceful way I see of doing that is to keep electing new officials until they get the message that we do not like what they are doing. Soon we will not have a vote.

A few weeks ago, I was photographing a visiting tall ship in the local port and I noticed a homeland security sign that warned against suspicious photographers. I was back in the port today so I took a second to take a photo of the sign.

Here it is.

Did you get a shot of the Homeland Security guard coming at you with a Taser?

No. The sign was posted near a Commercial /Charter fishing area on the wall at the entry to a Grill/Tiki Bar/Restaurant. Apparently they desire that anyone seeing "someone they do not recognize" doing what is described on the sign, that they should alert HLS.

won't have to imagine it for long! Their excuse will be "I was using google maps to navigate."

The easier cars seem to be to drive the more people forget why they sat in the front in the first place...!

Not necessarily politicians and judges - more often bored administrators needing 'busy work' to justify their posts. It used to be that people who broke the law went to court - with all the expense and pomp that it entailed (and safety nets) -now you get fined by some menial or judged by a 'designated' office wallah. There is too much dilution of the law. KISS worked for long enough so why do we allow ourselves to be intimidated by jumped up secretaries..!

Hate to tell y'all this, but we are become big brother. Most of us actually were happy when they passed the patriot act after 9/11 because we've grown to lazy to take care of ourselves and want government to do so! Now we either must learn to live with it, or quit sending the same idiots back to the Congress. The people are the problem!

The problem is, you have a choice between idiot #1 or idiot#2
