Not long ago, I purchased something, using PP to pay. I thought I had enough funds in my PP account (was selling some racing parts off my Corvette). I was about $120 short, so it went to the BML account. Wanted to pay with my CC, but no way with BML. Finially ended up giving my son the amount I needed to cover the bill and had him send it to me as a gift. No fees on gifts, and he used his CC to cover his PP bill. I then payed my BML account with money that was in my PP account.

Hope that wasn't too confusing.

If you pat BML on line, they will not take a credit card; they want your bank routing and account number. If you pay by check, they have that info also. NO WAY THAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN!!!!! I get a postal money order and send it to them; I pay extra for tracking, but so far it has saved me $50 in two late fees. That's right; one late fee is $25. Fortunately when I read them the tracking number, they reversed the charge. By the way, both payments were three days early and for the full amount. I now have a Green-Dot Visa that I use.

What is a Green-Dot VISA?

I'm not an expert on Ebay or PayPal, however, it seems that BillMeLater is a service that you have to sign up for. Here are some FAQ's that might help:

For online purchases I often use PayPal, with very few problems. I did have one incident a few years ago however. Since then I have unlinked my PayPal account from any of my regular bank accounts. I keep a small amount of money in an online-only checking account and have that linked to my PayPal account so I can transfer funds when needed. This should keep most of the bad guys away from my regular bank accounts.

You have a second checking account which is called an on-line-only checking account? How do you get two checking accounts? Are they with two different banks?

This is not an uncommon thing to do. I got mixed up with one of those shady camera companies online when I should have known better. Much too long of a story to go into on here but if I would have just simply googled that company (which I generally always do) I would have never purchased anything from them. I knew as soon as I got off of the phone with them that something didn't feel right. I called them back within 2 minutes and told them that my husband was furious about my transaction and I needed to cancel my transaction; Of course online it stated that you had an hour to do so for ANY reason. The man told me that my order had already been sent to shipping but if I got my order and wasn't happy for any reason to call them and get a return authorization he'd be happy to exchange/refund my money. That was a joke! I've got an envelope ( a large brown one) full of dates and transactions and items they charged me that weren't authorized by me. At the time I had nothing but time on my hands and was recovering from an injury. I wasn't in the mood to be scammed. I started investigating the situation. After reading numerous reviews and recording conversations with this guy I came to the conclusion that it was one guy who had 3 different names. Andy was the Owner, Adam was a Salesman, and Ben for customer service. The voice was exactly the same and you would never get to speak with more than one on any one call (if that makes sense). I could go on and on with what happened to me in this case because it was a horrible nightmare. In hindsight I am sure people fall victim to this daily. We've all heard the saying that "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is". I failed to remember that and was taken advantage of and threatened.
I called and wrote this company (or companies) a letter and told them that my attorney would be contacting the Attorney General and filing a complaint about all of their shady transactions and I wrote that I was aware of all the names that they were using also. Andy (The person who claimed to be the owner) very quickly returned my call and was very belligerent , cursing and threatening me. Telling me that I could NOT say that he was affiliated with these other companies. At the time I just giggled a bit and told him that it didn't take a scientist to figure that out when I ordered the camera I ordered from one company, my paypal account was charged from a 2nd company and a 3rd company actually shipped my camera.
That made him furious because he knew I had paid attention and had kept notes. I even scanned the address where my item was shown shipped from and sent it to him. It was a vacant building in New York.

I guess I strayed FAR from the reason one may need 2 bank accounts for shopping online. After my incident with this person I wanted my bank account changed immediately. There was NO way to tell my bank not to accept transactions from them because they went by various names; Was impossible to keep up with!
In the end I learned a good lesson about shopping online.
I've done it for years and have never had an issue but this one time was enough to more than make up for it I promise.
I don't have the need for 2 bank accounts but I know people who do and it doesn't sound like a bad idea.

Apologies that I got carried away on this.....
Have a great weekend

Yes, they made that agreement some time ago. But, I can tell you, I've used BML for several purchases and am very much satisfied with the way they do business. One small caveat . . . they don't send you a bill. They'll send an email to notify you that your statement is ready, but as a customer, you have to be proactive enough to go download your statement. Nonetheless, I like the 6, 12, 18 months same as cash. It works great!!

I completely agree with you Bruce. If you watch your account the interest free is a great feature.

Have you noticed that Bill Me Later seems to be the default for paying on eBay? I ordered something last week, and I thought it was going through PayPal, but it went through Bill Me Later. I bought something today, and I had to go through several extra steps to get away from BML and back to PayPal.

They desperately want to get you into paying interest on unpaid balances because it's a credit card type scheme. You can also now use PayPal at a lot of retail stores after you sign up for it. I was asked at Home Depot recently whether I wanted to use PayPal. I'm sure the PayPal rate is higher than a normal credit card too.

I had similar experience years ago. I bought a camera on online from a company in New York. It was a bait and switch operation. The camera was dirt cheap but they had me pay for some of the standard accessories that came with the camera and I ended up paying more. I complained to BBB and DA of New York. Finally after receiving several complaints they took action and closed more than 70 camera shops in New York area. Refunded the extra money the customers paid. I got the refund of the money I paid for accessories I paid for the camera. But my credit card was used to make several small purchases. I disputed all charges and they were reversed. I was lucky.

Have you ever used it intentionally? I've been offered it many times, but always decline, so it's always offered, but never been a default.
