Have you noticed that Bill Me Later seems to be the default for paying on eBay? I ordered something last week, and I thought it was going through PayPal, but it went through Bill Me Later. I bought something today, and I had to go through several extra steps to get away from BML and back to PayPal.
Yeah I noticed.Gotta watch that.
Interest baby, interest. How many people actually pay the full balance. You get a bill with a minimum payment due and they charge you interest. Just another way for paypal to make money. I don't know who bought the other one out however, but I think paypal bought out bill me later. It is extremely annoying to me also, but alas, making a small profit isn't good enough for these large corporations, they want the big money, and they found the way to do it... interest. I've used it but I make sure to pay the balance in full when I get the bill
You can link your ebay account directly to paypal and that will eliminate a lot of the clicks and steps you have to go through.

I thought that's what I had done, but I'll have to take a look at that.

ebay owns PP and BML. It collects a listing fee, a fee on the final sale price, and a fee on the shipping cost. They bill for the total once a month. PayPal takes their fee out directly, so I don't even get the amount the buyer paid.
It's much worse when selling a car. I have one on there now, and I pay the usual listing and selling fees, plus $200 or more because it's a car. It's a very good business.

Nope.Mine is linked and it still happens. Now I have not looked in "settings" to see if Bill me Later can be changed from the default, but it might be worth a look.

It's easy enough to go online and pay BML, but I'd rather not have to.

If you pat BML on line, they will not take a credit card; they want your bank routing and account number. If you pay by check, they have that info also. NO WAY THAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN!!!!! I get a postal money order and send it to them; I pay extra for tracking, but so far it has saved me $50 in two late fees. That's right; one late fee is $25. Fortunately when I read them the tracking number, they reversed the charge. By the way, both payments were three days early and for the full amount. I now have a Green-Dot Visa that I use.
We're not having any such problems in uk.
I've used EBay faithfully for about 17 years now. I've got my bank account listed as my default way to pay via Paypal. I ALWAYS see the option come up at the TOP (BUY NOW BILL ME LATER) when I click to pay through Paypal. At the very bottom of that area is the option that I was always used to seeing that led me straight to payment source (which is my bank and payment of choice). They hope that we don't see the option and go straight to Bill me Later. It would make them more money.
I have always had my Bank as my primary way of payment. I'm not sure it matters

I found an easy solution - I cancelled BML, now, when I buy an item, it's actually paid for at the time of purchase and I don't have a bill waiting for me to pay later. I like having the instant closure.
I'm not an expert on Ebay or PayPal, however, it seems that BillMeLater is a service that you have to sign up for. Here are some FAQ's that might help:
http://apply.billmelater.com/apply?guid=7B7D15P4&assetId=NBRVI0413For online purchases I often use PayPal, with very few problems. I did have one incident a few years ago however. Since then I have unlinked my PayPal account from any of my regular bank accounts. I keep a small amount of money in an online-only checking account and have that linked to my PayPal account so I can transfer funds when needed. This should keep most of the bad guys away from my regular bank accounts.

I figure that about half the world has my "private" information. There's no hiding in this electronic world. I've had Chase contact me a couple of times saying there was unusual activity on my card - in other states and other countries. They cancelled the cards and gave me new ones. There's no such thing as real security anymore.
Wouldn't it be nice if hackers went in a wiped all the credit card balances? :D
That's how today's reputable companies do the business. They trick you in to something that will benefit them. You want to make a credit card payment and 'minimum payment' is a default. You change it to other amount and if you make any another changes it goes back to min payment, and you pay minimum payment and then pay interest, if you don't notice it. You want to buy something on Amazon and if you do the search on item it brings lots of other items on the screen and if you don't pay attention you ended up buying the item you don't want. trust me I did.
