The cropped handheld is sharp as a tack. I would love to see a side by side of the first shot uncropped and cropped. Where was this taken?

MT : do you have any way to stop " Finger Slippage " , I am at my very last hope and out of instant glue to keep my finger from the Submit order for Sigma 150-500 button- oh no, I have accidentally ordered it. Aaaauggghhh.

Now I cant wait , should've ordered next day.
Thanks again for supporting my new addiction

My friend...you are the "camera lens" equivalent of a drug dealer. :)

Naw, he ain't no drug dealer. He's that big ol' guy back in grade school that nobody wanted to tangle with for fear he'd fall on 'em, you know, the one who used to stand back and agg two little fellers on, tellin' one of 'em, "hey, ol' Joe called you a sissy. Are you gonna take that? Let's you and him fight!!!"

I have an easy method for not hitting the order button. It just takes a few simple steps. First I open a new window and check my banking account balance. The I close the window where I was going to order the lens. Simple.

I did some searching on Amazon & eBay - found tons of 75-300 at $100 to $200 I am thinking of starting to save up for one.

Harv, I was diredted to the 70-300 non L. I bought it direct from Canon on one their referb sales. I want to add the biggy Siggy 150-500. I just looked at the 50-500 good pricing but I shall wiat for the 150-500. Many in my area call it the graet equalizer. Perhaps not as sharp or fast as Nikon or Canon, but my friend we are on a budget and many great shooters are using it

Well, it was one of the better ones. Original attached.

500mm ISO 500 1/200s f6.3. I set aperture priority to get the fastest shutter speed for the ISO and tried different ISOs to up the shutter speed. ISO 500 seems a good compromise although I'd prefer a shutter speed of 1/1000 when at 500mm.

When using the tripod I always use the infared remote release and try with OS on and OS off. Unfortunately I don't know afterwards which was which. But when I looked through the camera I could see substantial movement due to the wind on the camera with OS off. I think OS on helped that.

In contrast to much wildlife these guys like to lay around in clear sight.

It is in Hells Canyon which is on the border between Idaho and Oregon. This is just below the Hells Canyon Dam taken from the Oregon side across the Snake River to the Idaho side.

The lower photo has some Lightroom and Topaz Detail adjustment.

Here's one at ISO 1600 and 1/640

I opened the original with Elements 10 and tried cropping and it looked like crap. I guess due to the file downsizing to post on UHH. It's hard to believe the sharpness after the cropping you did. The original much have been a huge file size. Did you shoot in RAW jpeg or both?

I would say your next lens should be is the Sigma 200-500 f2.8http://www.sigmaphoto.com/product/200-500mm-f28-apo-ex-dg?gclid=CPfx0ajPobYCFQjhQgodiicAMw

A bargain at $32,000 msrp. I may order two just to have a back-up when the first one causes the camera strap to break and the first one hits the rocks.

Yes, without "store original" the posted images are under 300K. The ones I posted are jpeg exports at 500K. The originals are in RAW and are 16.3 MP...Nikon D7000. I did the cropping etc. on the originals.

Because they are shot in RAW I get some adjustment from my RAW import preset in Lightroom and then do some additional adjustments to get the full white to black range and add clarity. These guys are a little messy in their toilit habits so I reduced the yellow saturation to zero restoring their nice white fur. I also sometimes further enhance with Topaz filters.

Thanks for the input and reply.
I have a very low budget - SS & retirement $s only go so far. But from the amount of 75-300 I have found on Amazon & eBay from $100 to $200 it is just a matter of a couple months & will buy one.
quote=oldtool2]Harvey,

Give us a price range. There are a TON of lenses out there in the ?? to 200 or 300 range!

So sue me.  Do you recognize the photo and are you able to name the film and the actor? A little trivia quiz. Here's the grand prize.

Looks like Igor from Young Frankenstein ("fronk-un-STEEN"), but I'd be cheating if I looked up the actor, can't think of the name right now. Abby Normal, perhaps.

Quite the grand prize, too bad I lost. Maybe I can get a 70-200 f/2.8 consolation gift.
