Below is a portrait I took at Occupy San Francisco on Dec. 4. It is my best portrait so far. I can't decide whether I like color or black and white best. I like them both. Does anyone have a preference/opinion?
I'd say it way over exposed. I didn't see any color one to compare it to, but I'd guess that would be over exposed too...

The exposure is fine-It's done as a high key photograph. You may not like the interpretation? Here's the original unworked-on photograph to compare.

I know nothing about high key. I like the B&W. If you used an off-white, would that make it a non- high key?
Here is a short description of high key:
High key photography uses unnaturally bright lighting to blow out most or all harsh shadows in an image. High key methods were originally developed as a solution to screens that couldnt properly display high contrast ratios, but has developed into more of a stylistic choice.
I used photoshop and Topaz to blow it out.
Do a search on high key photography images to see some good examples. Some of them look really cool.
Nice bw interpretation, Meives.
I like the black and white one too. Very good work.
It,s an old technique used in old black and white years ago but in color it,s new and different. The muted colors make it artistic to me. A true black and white photographer never shot in color in the first place to have to deal with black and white in the second. It,s a digital decision.
B&W people look great in B&W. Nice shot!!
Black and White -- color can distract, and it does in your options.

B&W, definitely. Your heavily vignetted B&W works for me, but the color one looks washed out.
I like it...I see what you were going for; high key look.
I think the black and white version makes it look more intimate.
the ONLY thing I would change is to remove that small blemish on the end of his nose.
I like what you've done....good interpretation.
Most unusual example of just what can be done with a portrait. When you show things like this it makes me think that there was some alteration done to the photo, which, in itself, is not wrong. I have done an 11x14 of Buffalo grazing on Jack Rabbit Flats, just east of the Teton Mountains and using Photoshop and converting it to a B/W print with all types of subtilities and won a first prize at an Art League Contest a couple of years ago. It is always amazing to see just what you can do with Photoshop with a little help from Scott Kelby and his team at NAPP!

The first one is great....very dramatic in B&W ! Exposure is perfect for what you were trying to do !

Thanks for the input, everyone. I'll see if I like it with a little more detail on the top left. General preference seems to lean toward bw.
I love the blown-out detail. First pic, b&w. Looks very artistic! How'd you do it?
I love the b&w version. It looks like a drawing. Good work and very creative.
have you concidered both? with your permission i will post fot you to see
I think the color version is very neat. It is very artsy looking! I am sure the guy in the pic would love to have that. I would!
