Even if you aren't they will add $20, or so, and mail it to you.

Maybe I'm wrong in my thinking, but if the cost is identical no matter where in the USA you buy it, woiuldn't it be more advantagious to buy it from a local camera shop you trust so you have someone local to go to in case you need help? These bigbox stores only sell stuff and typically they have no body there that's an enthusiest or a pro. And a local shop will gladly help you try to save a buck or two on options and filters and even loan you a lens to try to see if you want it before you plunk down that $1300 or more for another piece of glass remote or any of the optional gear.JMHO, but if we don't support our local photo shops, they go the way of the DODO BIRD.

I agree about supporting the local camera shops. The only one left within reasonable driving distance from me is Hunts Camera in Hanover, Ma about an 8 mile drive. I buy certain items there but on my big purchases I buy from Adorama. Reason being is I save 6.25% sales tax. On a $2000.00 purchase were are looking at a shade over $120.00.

It's a Sales and USE tax (my emphasis). You still owe the state $120. I do the same as you. Someday the laws will level the playing field which now penalize the local shops.

B&H has some incredible deals right now. Anyone want to talk me into finally buying that 70-200 or 24-70?

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller?O=&A=PromoPage&Q=&pageId=61

Anyway, good combo deal on the 7000 and 18-200. Webpage problems are keeping me from getting to the final price but looks like $400 discount.

I know I sound like a broken record but those are Nikon deals available from ANY Nikon dealer

Not that this is the place and I do own a small buisiness. But imho this is destroying local economies. Good luck no matter which you choose. Ken

I think sometime in the future a lot of online businesses will have to charge the state's sales tax...I know that Amazon has already agreed with Massachusetts to start. I don't know when this will happen. I know that Amazon is opening a shipping warehouse in Ma.

And that is the reason they have "agreed" with Massachusetts to collect the state's sales tax for in-state sales. We just went through the same thing in Texas. Amazon opened a warehouse in Texas so, now we have to pay sales tax to Amazon in Texas. If a business has a brick and mortar presence in a state, they have to charge sales tax. At least, that is the way I have heard it explained.

I agree completely as long as the price is the same. You can often deal with a local shop by telling them what the internet price is. A good shop run by someone who is knowledgeable can be a real asset when you are wrestling with a decision.

The rule for the application of state sales tax is based on if the seller has any facilities in that state. As Amazon is installing a shipping facility in Mass, they will start to charge Mass sales tax to all customers within that state. If the seller has no facilities, they are not abliged to charge the tax to sales that are shipped.
