Splash photography - which one do you prefer?

Personally I think #2 would have been a winner had you captured all the splash.

I like them bot but I have to go with #2.
The first one is just a bit too busy although from the sounds of the event, # 1 might be appropriate for promoting it. Perhaps you could edit in the word Gasparilla across the photo using a suitable font so the rest of the photo becomes a background for the title.
BTW: Thanks for posting a photo of your set up. It has given me a couple of ideas to try for photographing aquatic life.

#2 - except it's not saying Tampa - will gasparilla be understood in the local patois? (If you're promoting, it's to outside tourists, yes ?)

It's a local photo contest in a small newspaper - everyone in Tampa is all-familiar with the Gasparilla celebration. Tampa began this celebration over a 100 years ago in 1904!
