Splash photography - which one do you prefer?

Hello all - I am considering submitting one of these photos in a local photo contest and would like your opinion.
Gasparilla is a local "pirate invasion " in Tampa each year so that is the theme of the photos - lots of parades on Bayshore Boulevard - next to the water and lots of beads and lots to drink.
The first photo is more colorful and the second is a bit simpler.
I have included the set-up for the second picture: an aquarium with water, 2 - 150 watt bulbs, beads hanging from overhead, and a previous 8X10 photo I took of Bayshore Boulevard taped to the inside of the aquarium ( thus under water ) and I taped the word "Gasparilla" to the picture.
The hardest part of all this is the focus - I wanted the splash to be the main focus point and so the lettering on the bottle is slightly off a bit.
Following this type of shooting, I drank the rum miniature!

here's my 2c : I like your concepts. I think #1 is too busy and #2 not enough. Can you do another that maybe combines your ideas? I like the skull&crossbones, maybe another set of beads dangling with the red (purple or gold?)for more color. Of course you need the rum bottle, the splash and the "gasparilla". Just an idea.

Yeah I think you are right- I was trying the "less is more " approach on the second one. Maybe more rum! Thanks for taking the time.
