I have used Minolta/Sony all my life but I recently went to the Nikon D600. Using the darn thing has been a challenge in the focus dept. The cameras are very different. I went out today and set the camera to the spot focus mode to try and gain control of the thing in shallow depth of field situations. Nothing fancy about the pix but the sudjects were good practice

Thanks Erv. I have taken 1000s of pix on my mission trips and where as I am happy with the results I have with my Sony 65v I felt I wanted to go to a full frame camera. The images that are put on exhibit have gone from 16x20 to the venue calling for 24x36 and larger for impact. I would have gone with the Sont 99 full frame but the 600 was rated better. Plus I can't put my finger on it but Nikon has something...a smoothness? to the images. I have only had it a month with bad weather so I need to get out and shoot even junk like this as I have another trip (hopefully my last) to Haiti then who knows so I need to know my way around the camera. The diff's are quite overwhelming sometimes I'm not comfortable yet

I have shot Nikons sense 1965 or so. My last one was an F6. I now have a D300s. Only been digital for 4 years now. I am almost happy with what I am getting out of the camera.:) This was a big jump for me. New camera and so many settings to play with inside. And the computer side of all of it. Still working on the computer. I just have Aperture in the Mac. But I am finally getting the camera to listen to me.:):) Been thinking of going FX too.
Have you had any of the dust and oil problems they seem to talk about? Have been looking at the D600 or the older D700.

The new camera is apparently getting the job done for you, the third shot is really nice. The photos ought to just get better and better!

Yes I had dust at 500 not since. people seem to think it's because of the painted mirror frame. My shooting is alittle rough neck so dust doesn't bother me as much a the fine art guy's. I got the cleaning kit and check for dust before I leave. For the money the 600 cannot be beat.

Like many of the others, I like the third shot best. The colors are quite pleasing. What I appreciate most about this shot is that you managed to project texture. Well done!
