I purchased a D7000 in Dec. love the camera, have purchased two other DX format lens 10-24mm and the 18-300. Friends have recommended that since this is my first DSLR I should be buying FX format lenses. If and when I upgrade to a FX format camera body I will have glass I can use. They say your lenses will last a lifetime but not a camera body, is this good reasoning ?

As far as I am concerned yes it is very good reasoning. A lot of other swill disagree.

I paid $999.00 for a refurbished D7000 last year. If you can get one at that price, its a steal!

I have purchased all my gear from B&H. I worked in the city at that time and if you ever get to go to the store it's quite a trip. Staff is very knowledgeable and help full. You can also call and they will answer any questions for you.

Can't suggest another place, but be aware of Sunset Electronics... they sell GREY MARKET products.
You will love the camera by the way.

Have decided to purchase the Nikon D7000. Have searched B&H, Adorama, Amazon & Best Buy. Can't get under $896.00 for new and $749 for refurbished. Not look to get something for nothing but would very much like to stretch my $$$.

Any other reputable web sites can anyone recommend???

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

One swill to the other swill . There is no advantage . Unless your making enough money with photography pay for all the other upgrades you will need to get , plus the
Extra cost for full frame . If your not blowing your pic. To poster size or cropping a 2inch square and blowing that up to 8x10 . Leave the full frame in the store

what is the main function of in-camera focusing motor on D7000?
I have the D5100, just want to know a bit more.
thanks.

Nikon AF-S lenses have their own focus motor so this only matters for an AF or M lens. The D7000 covers the AF cases.

While the D5100 is a great buy for the money, the D7000 is a more advanced camera...39 focus points vs. 11 for the D5100, weather sealed, larger view finder, quicker burst mode, just to name a few. If I had the extra cash to spend, it would be for the D7000.

If I needed another DX camera, I would get another 7000.

This is your first post on this thread...how did you know I wrote that for you? People were starting to compare the D5100 to the D7000.

Not me. I own a D5100 and D7000.

If I needed another now I'd buy the D5200.

Older lenses did not have the focusing motor in the lens.

All new lenses do so unless you have old ones it serves no function.

However I will add that I prefer the D5100 over the D7000. If money is an issue they are selling for quite good prices now that the D5200 has come out.

The D5100 has the same sensor as the D7000, better video performance, and a fully articulated screen. I was pleasantly surprised by how useful the articulated screen is.

I also prefer the way settings work on the D5100. The large LCD layout is better than the cluttered one on the D7000 and you don't have to search around for buttons. I can't read the D7000's little green LCD without reading glasses. I don't normally have my reading glasses when shooting.

The D7000 has several mechanical advantages over the D5100. (e.g. in-camera focusing motor, weather protection, and better viewfinder). If those matter most to you then it certainly is a good choice.

My wife took my D5100 and won't give it back so I'm stuck with the D7000. I'd happily trade it for a D5200!

On the D7000, you can get the same info on the rear screen that you get on the little green LCD by hitting the info button on the lower right rear of the camera.
