During a California wildfire rescue workers ran out of crates to place rescued animals, forcing them to put a fawn and a bobcat kitten in an office together. When they got back they found that fawn and the bobcat cuddling and the pair became inseparable.
An example of Nurture over Nature.

As far as cats killing billions....I never saw a rat as long as I had a cat. And we never lacked for birds. Planty of Mockingbirds, never saw my cat catch one. They were too smart.
LOL... There is a huge solid white cat that comes in to my yard and tries to hide in the small flowering plants below the bird feeder.... It really must suck for this cat to have the instinct of a hunter and the camouflage of a squad car with lights lite up...

I don't understand this war on cats all of a sudden. Some guy in New Zealand, I think it is, is trying to get cats eliminated from the whole country. Cats are just too cool. They're the James Dean of the animal world.

If all cat owners had to have a license to have a cat there would be a drop in the numbers, most animals kill for food cats kill for fun, get rid of cats.
I'm rather partial to cats.

Cats are cool. I help with an organization that captures ferell cats, spays and nuters them and then releases them so the they don't over populate. They have their place in the food chain too..

Does the same go for some homo sapien then??
Ever seen a fox among chickens?
Ever saw a cuckoo in a nest with the real chicks laying dead below?
It's a long long list and believe it or not it's called nature.
Oh and by the way - Dogs kill for fun too.

You seem to imply I am a cat hater, not so Steve, had cats all my life as a kid. I related an article which I thought was interesting and relevant to the topic. I didn't write the article.
But cats are enemies of birds, at least mine were. How big I don't know. 8-)
All animals hunt-end of story. Lions kill anything it can eat and this goes down the food chain. When did you last have a steak?

It was encouraged in Europe during the 1300's. The killing off of a large portion of the cat population let the population of rats grow dramatically. With the rats came fleas which passed diseases to humans. The best known is the Black Plague. NZ might want to study history.
Wonderful story and great picture - how wonderful it would be if humans could exhibit such tolerance and unconditional regard for others.
Thanks for sharing!!

Many humans do, in a way an animal could never do. :)

Except that cats do not always kill to eat. :)
I guess the brain dead mainstream new media has nothing better to report than domestic and stray cats are killing too many birds and small rodents. Hey...THAT'S WHAT CATS ARE SUPPOSED TO DO!!. Everybody must listen before it's too late...we must sit down with our pet cats and tell them when we leave them out of the house for fresh air, they are not supposed to go after birds and rodents! Before we know it...we're not going to have any more birds, mice or rats running around!!!

Look to the skies. There are birds everywhere. Cats aren't going to make a dent in the population. There is also enough wilderness area in this country to provide a safe haven for the bird population, even within urban areas. Why don't you do something useful like raise money for overhead crosswalks for squirrels?
