I never offer technical advise, (not qualified) If I like the photo, I say so and thank the person for posting. I rarely post my photos. By the time the daily forum gets to me it's a day old. The postings I want to comment on have 3 to 6 pages of comments so I don't bother.

I agree with you Milllismote. When I get the newletter everything has been responded to several pages deep. Why add my thoughts if it has already been done five times.

I look at the photos for the pure enjoyment of seeing other places and other points of view. Gives my day a good start and I get inspired to go out and do what I do.

1. Always looking for new ideas and ways to accomplish things, and I will always try to help others no matter what it is they need help with.
2. 2 or 3 hours, unless I comment, then it could easily be 8 hours due to all the comments that follow. (if I don't add a comment I don't get notifications that anybody else did also)
3. I simply indicate my thoughts at the moment. (?)
4. I only comment when I see what I think is outstanding, but I am not a pro by any means. I don't comment on anything that isn,t outstanding to me.
5. I would only post my good shots, in my opinion, and am proud of it.
6. Information and ideas from others. YES DEFINATELY!

1. You need any help or you are going to help?
Yes, I need help. No I'm not going to help, not after what happened last time. I didn't do it, lousy cops.

2. How many hours or minutes are you spending with forum?
3 minutes. I used to last longer.

3. When are you placing your comments looking somebody’s picture?
Oh yeah baby. Look at this!

4. If you see bad picture are you placing your honest opinion?
Water World was awful, honestly, bad.

5. When are you posting your picture /you took picture of something interesting for other members or you are proud of result/?
I'd never post my picture. One look and the internet will crash.

When do I get my prize?

#1 Both
#2 2to? hours as I host the Special Effects Challenge thread--we're u to almost 800 pages and 100,000 hits. We have a dedicated group of individuals that post daily on the thread as well as a number that show up periodically. I also post on Red is Red, Panoramas and Infrared.
#3 I comment continually on the threads
#4 I temper my comments to the situation.
#5 I don't post anything that I don't believe is a good picture.
Sorry I missed your headliner question. I didn't know what I was really looking for and was a little disappointed in UHH to start with. Then I tried the SEC thread and it really took off, I found more than what I was looking for. It takes a lot of time but the rewards are great!
I hope that answers your questions

[quote=MMC]I am using UHH to learn. I like to suggest help even when not asked. I think the essence of this forum is improvement, not showing bad pictures of kids and dogs. If I did not comment on your pictures, it was probably that I didn't have anything to say. David

1. I don't ask for help and I seldom offer any since most hedgehog members are more experienced than I am.
2. I am a busy person so I don't have hours to devote to UHH. Counting the times that I check in on the forum, I spend about an hour a day on it.
3. I comment on almost all the photos I look at. My comments are always positive since most of the photos that I see are beautiful.
4. No.
5. When I post I hope that the photo is of interest to others, and, yes, I am proud of it. However, my photos seldom make the list, or board, or whatever it's called, so the photo gets only few views and only a couple comments. People have to dig to find my work. This is very discouraging to me, so I seldom post any more. When I do post, as I finally did the other day, again my photo was buried. So, why bother?
6. When I joined UHH almost two years ago, I was looking for pointers and ideas. I did receive both earlier on, but not that much lately. What I have found on UHH is too much politics.

I couldn't agree with you more and I would also like to ad that some people get very personal. This has been a let down to the point that I mainly look at the jokes for a laugh.

i put pics on not to be judged but to show members the areas where i live if its a good pic so be it i dont class it as a photography forum but as a world wide family forum that has a interest in photography a lot of members on here you feel a bond with them even though you will never meet,( try putting your pics on photosig and watch them get pulled apart)jimmy

1. I log on in order to take part in giving and receiving help.
2. I spend at least a good 30 minutes on the forum.
3. I place a comment immediately.
4. I will post constructive criticism when it comes to bad photography. I will also tell them what is good about the photograph.
5. I post a pic whenever I feel the urge and it has to be of excellent quality.

I was wondering that, too. But in reading through the various answers, I began contemplating what seems an odd twist - that is, in my own, and thankfully others'(!) answers, it seems that although we lay claim to insufficient expertise for proper critique or guidance, we nonetheless feel eligible to judge what may be a "bad" photo (pursuant to question 4).
(I personally feel well qualified to evaluate post work, since I managed and QC'd a 'pre-press' image production team for a number of years - but that's not photography, is it... )
This made me reevaluate just what the heck I think my qualifications might be to judge what's "bad" or not, and came up with the following hypothesis:
- Everybody has eyes! (or at least most people who view photos), and what we see goes straight to the brain for whatever spontaneous possible emotional response it may trigger - and visuals tend to trigger lots of unpredictable responses for me, anyway (which goes directly to the "art" aspect of photography). So I guess the old saying, "I know bad art when I see it" would apply, and probably everyone to some degree makes at least a subliminal judgement, whether "qualified" or not ... or not? Any qualified shrinks on this board?

Love to give honest answers so here are some for you.

1) I get help whenever I ask and try my best to give help whenever possible.

2) I spend my downtime here. That could be less than 5 hours in a week or it could be more than 15 hours

3) I try to be nice when commenting always. If I am in the
Photo Analysis, then I am trying to make sure my critique is specific. If a photo is in the Photo Gallery and they did not ask for critique, I try to keep my mouth shut. They did not ask what is wrong and I am not going to open my mouth and make them wish they did not post. Thanks for sharing.

4) I am honest. If I hate the photo and no critique was requested, I tend to move on. If it was a good subject or could have been, I do compliment the attempt.. not the result.

5) I want honesty. Some photos I post because they are fun and I know already they are not professional quality but are fun to share. If you do not like it, I do not mind at all. When I want critique, I ask for it. I also try to ask specific people on UHH, who know the subject I want critique on, to comment. I get great response and am very happy I found this site.
