How true. Interestingly enough, My entire clan of solid tax payers just stampeded from cali to San Antonio five months ago. Was afraid I'd hate it but to my delight, have found it to be a blessing in a host of ways. The ppl here are delightful. intelligent, courteous and demonstrating a genuine kindness i was sure no longer existed. A large part of what i recall of the month i was in NYC was the unpleasant smell and most of the ppl there were either too fearful or self-absorbed to even make eye contact. Up the Republic!

Actually you are wrong. When Sheriff Joe Arpaio tried to enforce federal immigration law he was sued by the Fed and treatened with arrest. The Arizona law was basically modeled after the Federal law that the Feds will not enforce.

The presidents from both parties must share in responsibility for the Thousands of deaths and untold human suffering directly and indirectly caused by failure to really close the open border with mexico. Shame!

Totally true. Any denial of same could be explained by a disconnect from truth or by reasonable embarrassment of a position demonstrated by someone you associate yourself with. An open border with one of the most violent countries on earth cannot be justified, PERIOD!

opportunities are what keeps me here. Ya'll come on down....for a visit or a move! You won't regret it.

Too late, we're already here in force from Cali. Not to panic, however, we are the kind ya want. My son and his wife have brought even more employment opportunities here and my wife and I have mainly brought a fair amount of money, kindness and common sense. Something, I'm sorry to report, are increasingly lacking on the left coast. =)

Yeah, good post. I was also born in SA and moved to Houston after I got out of the Navy. I went through the whole deal and left after my career was finished. Loving CC also.

To each to his own. I love New York and would never think of living in Texas. Texas policies on education, woman's health, gun control are the opposite of my views. NYC is a beautiful friendly city.

Good for you and congrats... stay there in anti-legal-gun crime hell and get murdered then! Texas wouldn't want you anyway.

NYC friendly? You've got to be kidding. Even here in Florida every service worker spots a New Yorker immediately when they enter a place of business. They expect the worst treatment then get it every time. NYC is the butt of every unfriendly joke ever written by every comedian who ever lived because of it's worldwide reputation for unfriendliness.

You can have it. If I wanted to be surrounded by several million male and female clones of Don Rickles with their middle fingers in the air constantly, I'd try to endure NYC for one day. But once was enough for me.

I like your mayor of San Antonio. I saw him on a number of political shows and he spoke at the convention.

Hey, I live in Houston, Texas, and on the East side as a matter of fact. We all carry guns and like it like that. Sure, lots of people get shot... Just had a shooting at Lone Star College today! But what would it be like if only the criminals had guns ? Their are so many mean-spirited rough people around here, some of us good guys gotta keep em in check. Thats life on the East side. It's hard & short if you don't protect yourself.

Coming from the UK I find all this fascinating. Here if you are seen to carry anything that remotely looks like a gun including certain air weapons the Armed response units will come down on you like a ton of bricks. If you don't react to their demands quickly enough you will be shot dead. Last year in the UK there were 1760 firearm incidents not homicides. The number of gun related deaths were 58 with another 35 classed as suicide. In the USA in 2010 there were 11,078 gun related homicides plus there were 19,332 Suicides. In 2009 there were 310 million firearms in a population of 305,529,237. This I find scary, there is a bigger chance of being struck by Lightning here than being shot with a gun.
