My interpretation:
A play on China "absconding" with people's data (via phone apps (ie. Tik-Tok)) and storing the information on servers in a protected hidden place in the "mountains".

My iPhone 10xr saves photos in Apple's HEIF format. I can set it so they’re converted to JPEG when transferred to my PC. I can do RAW using an app called Pro Photo and transfer RAW to my PC if I want to. I’m not aware that the default file format for an iPhone or an Android is RAW.

I can shoot raw with my Samsung Galaxy S23 without having to use an app. It saves the file as *.dng. But if I don't shoot raw I believe it just dump the raw data.

Aren't you using the camera app that came with the phone?
Isn't .dng a raw file? I changed mine to save JPEG on my S21.

Yes I use the camera app but I said I don't need the app means I didn't have to pay to get a special app so that I can shoot in raw with the Iphone. The camera app that came with the S23 is capable of shooting raw. Yes dng is raw but if I choose to shoot jpg then it only saves the jpg and no dng. If I choose to shoot raw then it only saves the dng. Any way if I shoot jpg it dumps the raw data.

I have a galaxy S21 and my photo file is jpg not jpeg but I think that the same. I'm nervous about changing major things on my phone

Actually if I just use the camera app to shoot photo it would save as jpg. If I want dng I have to go to MORE then choose PRO to shoot in dng. And in the PRO mode I can also change the ISO and shutter speed.

Not only it's an additional it's not free. So I never tried it when I had the Iphone.

No, cameras have zero persistent memory. The view on the back of your camera are stored within the files on your memory card. It is a little known fact that the Exif specifies the format of ALL file types written by cameras on their memory cards including JPEG, TIFF, Manufacture’s raw… .

Exif does not include a raw data “tag” which would make JPEG and all other file types enormous. My reference is the Wikipedia article “Exif” which is an abridged version of the JEIDA/JEITA/CIPA specification. Except for the usual opening paragraph the article quickly becomes difficult to casually read.
