Thanks for the visit and for commenting.

Hobbs was there...I believe that is him. Years ago, I shared an incident with him that is indelibly buried in my memory. It was 1985. BMW was launching their new 5 series sedan at a big event held at the Road Atlanta facility.
They invited me to attend and to participate in the activities.

The highlight of the event was a chance to drive the new car around the race track, The program was this: They assigned a professional driver to each participant. My driver was David Hobbs. He would take me around for two laps, to show me the true potential in how well that car could handle. Then I got to take two laps with him sitting in the passenger seat.

As you might imagine, I was white-knuckled as he made that car do things I didn't think were possible. It was now my time. I made it around the track on the first lap at what I thought was a decent pace....with no drama. As we started my second lap, he committed that he thought I might want to pick up my pace a little. We came to a long, sweeping turn about halfway around the track. I lost the car...went spinning in one complete revolution and half of another....thank the lord, we didn't leave the track. There was a looooong moment of silence in the car. Then he looked at me....and said " That was quite a trick. I suppose for an encore you set yourself on fire "
Thanks for the visit and for commenting. br br Ho... (show quote)

Haha, what a treat! I’ll bet your wild turn got his attention! Maybe, you were the last “rookie” getting the opportunity to try the track? Haha….

More great photos, Tom, and a great story of your experience behind the wheel of that BMW! You sure attend shows with a much higher level of collector cars than the ones I regularly attend and participate in.

..... Picture 2 - 1950 Nardi 1100 Sport. Built by Nardi with Motto coachwork.

Picture 3 sure reminds me of a Triumph TR-3. I wonder if that was the foundation?

After my episode on the track, I had to hurry to catch a plane back to Jacksonville. Before I left, I didn't hear of anyone else screwing up during their time behind the wheel.

Hey, Bob.

The Amelia show is always held on the first weekend in March. You should make every effort to attend next year. They have events that stretch over the entire week but the main show is on Sunday. If you decide you want to go, let me know and I'll help you set everything up. You would love it.

It's good to hear from you. From what little info I could gather, I doubt that any of it was based around the TR-3. I'll see if I can gat further info about it.

Picture 4

1964 Ford Falcon 428 C. I. motor. Has the loudest exhaust sound I've ever heard.

Very unique and beautiful cars. The Falcon reminds me of one I saw in Minneapolis back in 1968. That one had very oversized slicks and wheelie bars on the back. Might have all been for show, I did not get a peek under the hood. I should have taken a picture but it was before my photography days and the days of cell phones.

The pix just ignited an old memory. The similarity was just the lines of the side profile.
