I just use a nondescript (third party) wide strap with clips and D-rings on the camera for my DSLR.
My current denim strap is pushing 50 years old.
No added features or functions on the strap.
The strap on my Sony H-1 is the OEM strap (It's a little camera).

I took the strap off my camera and replaced it with a 3" wide soft strap.
The strap that came with my Sony a7RV was simply too narrow and thin for comfort.
The strap brand that I'm using now is an OP/Tech USA brand that I got was from B&H.
My lenses are just too heavy with my camera for the original strap to be comfort.

Yea, I like the wide straps much more.
My strap is so old (45+?) I don't remember the brand, and it's not marked.

I generally use optec straps. For me they have been comfortable and reasonably priced.

Does anyone buy third-party straps or you generally use the original that comes with the camera?

I think my only modification was adding a velcro pocket for a remote to a standard strap.

Is there something else people do with straps in terms of adding features/functions that I might be missing out on?

I use an OP/Tech USA Super Classic Sling ($35) worn "Cross Body". It features a quick one-strap pull for adjustment. https://www.optechusa.com/
I have/use one for each camera body.
As for add-ons OP/Tech USA offers just about anything . . . . https://www.optechusa.com/collections/accessories
There are many other straps available that you will see on UHH, and no, I haven't tried them. However I tried OP/TECH USA first and they are comfortable, well made, and great value for the dollar$ $pent.
They also make slings/straps/(neck, shoulder, and wrist) harnesses for binocs and cameras of all sizes. If that isn't enough you can modify them to suit just about anything you can think of.
As I said, other than the huge uncomfortable advert that screams "Steal Me" that comes with your camera OP/Tech USA was my first and only choice.
As always, do what is best for you and pleases you. . .
Best Wishes,

Straps that come with the camera body...are just enough to get the product out the door.

You get another.

I use either the factory strap or fabric "hippy" straps. Some are many decades old. I don't hike so simple is fine.

I have Canon cameras, but find the oem straps uncomfortable. They are too stiff and have an edge that doesn’t lend itself to all day carrying, for me anyway. That aside, all straps I actually use are Optech except for one cross body sling type that I bought “somewhere” years ago.

I never use the strap supplied by the camera manufacturer. I use straps designed to fit across the shoulder and the body to eliminate neck strain. I have three straps I use for different purposes: Peak Design Slide; OpTech Pro and a Black Rapid Sport. I added a QR clamp to the Black Rapid so I can attach it to an Arca Swiss camera plate or a tripod collar mount for tele lenses.

I have several 3rd party straps in which one allows me to carry 2 extra batteries, or I could use one for extra memory card(s).

Blackrapid straps are very good and very comfortable to wear.

Maybe some of us "Doofuses" don't fee like carrying it in our hand for 10+ minutes while walking around/hiking.....
Cross-shoulder it's always at the ready.
Interesting that if we don't don't do it your way, we're doofuses.

Perception....

I was not aware that people taking photos must also be stylish.

I suppose some do.

And, there are probably some "Look at me, I'm a photographer." people out there.

Mine are embossed with C A N O N. They're the originals and they're the B E S T.

That works for me. Anyone want to buy all my Nikon gear? I'm ready to switch to C A N O N so I can get a strap.

I use two of the promediagear SH-1 holsters, on my belt.
I have been using them for at least 5 plus years.
What a game changer!!
No weight on my neck and back.
Easy access to the kit, and nothing swinging around.
