Since covid hit I don't go out and take pictures much so none of my cameras have the strap on. Using it in the house or just outside the house I prefer without the strap. Also when used with tripod I prefer without strap.

Great topic. Like others have already stated, I do not like to advertise the camera by using the 'brand' strap. I do like using the strap around my neck along with hand carrying the camera. This provides a safety net should my hands accidently drop the camera. There is a pouch on the strap for a battery and memory card which is useful to have without needing to remember to bring them. If using a tripod, the strap is wrapped around the tripod to prevent wind shake. My cameras have never been without their straps nor do I see this happening in the future. For me, strapped is my choice.

I have a hand strap on my DSLR, it does make carrying it for a while
much easier on the hand. I also have "D" rings on the camera for my wide nondescript strap if I don't feel like carrying it in my hand.
Yeah I use tripod at home. I never go out with the tripod because I don't have money for expensive tripod. My tripod is good but it's only 16lbs.

Mine are embossed with C A N O N. They're the originals and they're the B E S T.
Like Paul, I have mine embossed with C A N O N, because I shoot Nikon and do not want anyone to steal it.
Actually, I use Black Rapids modified with Arca-Swiss clamps for quick release. Sorry, Paul, I could not resist.
I always replace the strap that comes with the camera. Why? A. I don’t want to advertise what I’m shooting with
B. The included strap is too narrow to be comfortable C. It’s ugly (LOL). I don’t go for any additional features.
I always get a laugh at the preponderance of people on here that think brand really makes a difference in whether a thief will steal your camera or not.
I use Peak Design for all reasons above.
The part of this thread that interests me most is that we (and I include me) think that not having a strap with the mfg name will not 'advertise' our expensive cameras to nefarious people.
I've changed my mind.
Anyone looking to steal cameras already knows that a person holding a 'big ass camera' may be worth stealing. I never look at the camera strap when I see someone walking around with a camera and lens.
So, I've reconsidered and do not think that using the manufacturer's camera strap with their name in BIG LETTERS, will make a hill of beans difference. It's all about your own awareness and vigilance.

For some thieves it actually may.....
Others just want your camera more than you do.

results being a sore neck and shoulders
Yeah, my neck hurts too if carrying a camera for a long time. Do those other types of straps really help with that?

Have you tried carrying cross-shoulder?

Hmm. Nope. Is it really better? The strap would need to be set a lot longer. Right?

I carry around the neck or cross body with the same length, no problem, I find a hoodie or a shirt with a thick collar can add padding on the back of the neck

I believe so. I think I have my wide denim strap out almost all the way.
If I'm hiking, I just set the camera higher on my chest. (My <OLD> strap is "non-skid")
