Gentlemen, although I have no experience with Sony but I know it has very good quality I am not going to drop my Nikons and run to buy a Sony. I do not do video.
Canon and Nikon have excellent cameras and lenses although I am in no position to discuss which one is better. Both cameras can cover any event, which they have been doing now for many years.

I believe every photographer should buy what fits him or her better and obviously what he or she considers better for the job. Cameras and lenses are only tools.

I was planning on going to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately all my cameras say Nikon, so I guess I'll stay home and watch it on my Sony TV.

Who gives a crap. I'd defy you to tell the difference of a pic take by one or the other.

Two nights ago I did a gig at a Chamber of Commerce event at a very high end community center. I was hired by the chamber, as was a social media guy, and a video guy. There was also an independent person taking photos. What we all had in common (and this has never happened before!) was we were all using Sony equipment. Now I know this will ruffle the gentle feathers of so many on this blog, but the reality is that market share is everything, and I as a Sony shooter am even amazed at how much is changing in the professional sphere. Years ago it was rare to find a pro shooting Sony, and now it seems that we are the majority. For there to be four image makers at an event and all of them using Sony had me pretty shocked. People vote with their feet and their money, and the other brands have to be on notice to up their game.

Knowing this, I will be able to sleep soundly tonight. Thank you.

Sony jump started improved AF with the A9. It was a game changer for anyone shooting action. They switched to Sony and never looked back. With the releases of high end glass and the investments in such and continued improvement in the bodies, anyone who made the switch has not incentives to go with the competition. On the other hand, Nikon coming out with zooms with built in converters may have something going for them, but my guess is Sony with provide the same options.

Yes, there you will find Sony, Nikon, and I guess Canon, if they wish to show up outnumbered and out gunned, AGAIN.

United Press International recently switched to Sony. But that in itself doesn't mean much. Nikon, Canon, and Sony make up the bulk of todays professional photographic equipment.
And camera, in the hands of an experienced photographer, can deliver quality results.
Sometimes too much emphasis is placed on equipment and not on knowledge, experience, and skill.

More power to you Harry. I am 72 and have used Nikon , Canon , Leica, Hasselblad and many other brands for over 40+ years, and moved over to Sony back in 2017, and have never looked back.

Use what you have, what you are familiar with and what is long paid for, and be happy.

No one is saying anyone has to switch brands.

Cheers and best to you.

I Fully SECOND that Motion!!

Sony has the pro market, no doubt.

More importantly, they own the sensor market.

They make coin from their competition...a one way street of profit for them.

I'm not saying this is the case, but often a large company will offer discounted (fleet price?) for their product, to large volume purchasers. Do you think so many patrol officers drive Ford Explorers because they are the best vehicle on the road? A large dealership in my neighborhood has a "fleet manager", who takes care of large volume customers....and believe me, they don't pay anywhere near MSRP (sticker price) per vehicle.

Perhaps Sony, Nikon, Canon and others offer bargains to large agencies like AP?

All I can say is that I have too much money invested in Canon lens to ever change. Of course, I'm not a pro just an amateur that's been taking pics for over 50 years. For some unknown reason I started with Canon; don't know how many I have and I'm too lazy to go count them but I suspect over a dozen. (I'm 93 and I don't thiink that I could list them all from memory if my life depended on it.) Harry

Exactly. I'm in a parallel situation. 47 years of Pentax cameras and lenses. And lots of each. Advanced hobbyist. My K-1 mark ii will surely outlive me.

Canon has their own foundry. They don’t use Sony sensors.

There is a photographer here in vegas who is very well known in the entertainment industry that is 93 years old, and yes he has Canon DSLRs. I was fortunate to be seated (even though he was up and shooting!) next to him at a "closing" show of a venue that lots of entertainers performed at. His name is Ed Foster, and he kind of has the run of the town!!

It really doesn't matter. The best camera is the one that the individual photographer likes best.
