Liberty state park in NJ. You can get the back of the Statue of Liberty in the photo if you want.
Also the teardrop memorial in Jersey City, NJ - the container ship port across from the teardrop memorial works great too.

There’s a Whole Foods Market along the river road, just south of Fort Lee. Maybe a little further north than you’d like, but you can park at the market and walk right over to the path along the river.

And…just north of that, as you start going up the hill, there’s a roadway that goes under the George Washington Bridge…some really cool opportunities there. Study your maps before you go.

Agree with these two locations. However note that Struggle Against World Terrorism also known as the Tear of Grief and the Tear Drop Memorial is located in Bayonne, NJ.

Also Gilman mentioned Boulevard East, this is an excellent location just above the cliffs on the New Jersey side of the Hudson River.

Try the jersey skyline from Battery parkwith the sun setting between the buildings with a sailboat returning up the hudson. Spectacular view and make a great pano from the tip of JC. I used wide angle lens to capture a great photo 1

…while Jersey offers some nice views it’s a pain to get to…the Brooklyn Bridge and the parks in Brooklyn along Water Street offer some of the most iconic images of NYC…

As someone who lives in Jersey, I find Brooklyn a pain to get to. 😀.

It's all relative, isn't it.

Manhattan has many good Skyline opportunities. Enjoy finding you favorite views!

… Jersey is not the Big Apple…and if you are going to Manhattan, why would you leave to go to New Jersey when you can just walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and get great shots of the city as Pop Pop posted…and if you subscribe to PhotoPill you can see that the sun will be setting right behind the tip of Manhattan during the month of March which should offer some stunning images…he’ll be a little early for Manhattanhenge (end of May & around July 11th in 2024)…

My favorite shots of New York were from a river/bay cruise at sunset. Focal lengths varied from 24mm to 80mm full-frame field of view.

My favorite is of lower Manhattan (The Financial District) from the Brooklyn Pier. I used a 18-135mm wide open at 18mm. Its a short walk from the Brooklyn Bridge. Here a few examples

Nice, night cityscapes are some of my favorite things to shoot.

Staten Island ferry gives you a great view of Lower Manhattan, on the trip back.
Great shots of Lady Liberty also.
The promenade in Brooklyn Heights will give you fun shots.
Gantry Plaza State Park in LIC will give you great views of Mid-town, and the Pepsi sign

I was also thinking the ferry except it would be impossible to do a real pano. I tend to like longer exposures for city shots and that ferry isn’t gonna cooperate. It’s a great view though.

Thanks Jerry. I spent a few hours there but it was worth it for me

When I’m with my friends I’ll take the usual quick tourist shots but if I’m doing my “serious photography” I’ll ditch my friends and spend hours shooting. Back in August I went out at night and spent 3 hours shooting in Portland. In November I spent 4 hours shooting Tampa. I had no idea Tampa was such a great place to shoot.

Going to the apple in March, and I had this great original idea of shooting a pano skyline shoot. If anyone has had this same original idea, where would you recommend to be a great location?
Also what lens did you use?
TIA

I live in New York I usually go into Brooklyn to Dumbo Park because I love to photograph the Brooklyn Bridge from Dumbo Park you can also photograph three bridges. Here is a shot I did on

I sometimes tend to do that also when traveling with my wife. I did it in Chicago along with other places.

When I was flying to Portland I missed my connection and spent the night in a hotel near Midway. By the time I got to my room it was midnight and I had to get up about 6:00 am. I was really tempted to Uber to the waterfront and shoot but knew I had a long day ahead of me in Portland.

A little south of Weehawken, is Steven's Institute of Technology in Hoboken.
Near the admin building is a nice lookout spot called Castle Point.
It's pretty much straight across from the Empire State Building, for a Midtown skyline.

Thanks for the suggestion. My son lives in Hoboken and this will be a nice stop on a nice day when visiting.
