Great choice. The SA23 is an excellent phone. Also, I think Google maps on android is superior to (more accurate) the apple GPS. Android is much more widely used all over the world, which comes in handy if you need to swap sim cards in another country while traveling. AND you saved money!

You do know that you can use Google maps on IOS devices.

I recently heard that Apple Maps has improved to the point that its now better than Google Maps. But maybe it's just a matter of preference.

I have been using Google Maps on my iPhone but plan to check out Apple Maps.

I currently have the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, but I think I'll save money to buy the S23 Ultra next.

Glad you're liking your S23.

I know the Iphone 12 I had did have the port. The Iphone 15 does have a port but I am not sure it's thunderbolt or USB C. Yes you can plug a cable into it. But all the Iphone only allow 1 way transfer that is out of the phone but not into the phone via cable.

USB-C

I meant try it the other way around. Transfer 1 picture from the Mac to the Iphone without the internet. I know people say why put a picture taken with another camera in to the phone? But I do have such need.

I haven't seen a response to this issue in this thread, but you can transfer pictures to and from an iphone with a direct connection between the iphone and the computer (in my case, an iphone 15 and a pc). You just take the charging cable and connect it to the iphone and to the computer, go to explorer and the iphone will show up as another device/drive. Once you give permission to allow for the connection between devices, you can (and I have) transfer pictures in both directions.

Incorrect. Apple and aftermarket devices are available to transfer data to the iPhone from other devices. Memory cards with photos. I do it frequently.

Iā€™ve been a Macintosh/Apple user since 1990 when I could never figure out how to use ā€œDOSā€ on my IBM desktop computer at work. So I bought my first Macintosh SE for use at home. One of my favorite work memories was when my company upgraded all office PCā€™s to Microsoft Windows in 1993. I had to teach all of the members of my department how to use a mouse and drop-down windows. Since that time Iā€™ve never purchased or used at home anything but Apple equipment, other than my first ā€œsemi-smartā€ Blackberry cell phone that I purchased from AT&T in 2007 because I was advised that Blackberryā€™s were considered more ā€œprofessionalā€ than iPhones. But that all changed when the head of IT at my company showed me his new iPhone 4 in 2011, and immediately realized I needed to ditch the Blackberry and buy a iPhone. Iā€™ve remained loyal to iPhones ever since and currently have an iPhone 14, which of course, I love. I donā€™t have any trouble quickly transferring jpegā€™s taken with my Nikon Df or D850 stored on a hard drive connected to my Mac Studio to my iPhone simply by holding the iPhone close to the Mac Studio and using Appleā€™s built-in AirDrop function to quickly move the photos from the Mac Studio to the iPhone over my home wifi network ā€¦ and vice versa, including my iPad or LG smart TV, for that matter. I can also email or text photos from any of my Apple devices. So Iā€™m not clear what advantages an Android device would offer over a modern iPhone when it comes to image transfers. In my opinion, the Apple ecosystem is top notchā€¦ especially for photographersā€™ use at home where you donā€™t have an IT department to fix equipment or software issues.

I said it couple times that I transferred pictures in BOTH directions and it works without a problem. Again, I did this with an Apple charging cable that I connected to the usb on my pc.

To each his/her own. I am just glad that I picked the Android although I knew nothing about it when I bought it. I had used the Iphone for nearly 10 years. I am retired but still get occasional work to fix the DOS computers used as HMI in the factory I used to work. I got paid pretty well for that.

But as far as I can tell you can't get Apple maps for anything but Apple. One of the very many things I dislike about Apples business model. It's a tightly fenced in system, and they don't share.

Apple iOS have come up with some great innovations but if you want to use them you have to join the Apple club. iTunes was a great idea at the time but available only to Apple hardware, eventually they allowed non-Apple hardware, but iTunes for non-apple was more expensive. Face Time in great innovation again Apple only. Duo, Androids version of Face Time is available on Apple but not the other way around. As mentioned, Google maps is available on Apple, but Apple maps is not available on Android.

For a long time Apple apps had to be created on a Mac with Apple software, it was basically C or C# but Apple had imbedded id code the prevented non-Apple C apps from being uploaded to the store.

Earlier this year Apple did a lot of complaining about being forced to join the rest of the world as far as universal chargers USB C. If Apple's Lightning connector was so much superior why didn't they put any effort into convincing everybody else to switch?

My mobile phone path was Nokia, I had a Nokia smartphone when the iPhone was released, it had GPS, internet connection, 3rd party apps and a touch screen. I stayed with Nokia until the Windows phone came out, I really liked that phone, when that joined Nokia and the DoDo I moved to Android, I currently have a Pixel 6, entirely satisfied.

But IOS people said that for the security of the phone and it's safer if you use Itune or Icloud or even email that is sending your files thru the cloud (where is the cloud) and then it will arrive at your phone a foot away from your computer is the safer route.

Airdrop works well both directions for photos.
