It's kind of doubtful that removing a card from the camera will damage the files on the SD card. The exception might be if the card was removed while writing to it. When you plug your SD card in to the computer, do you turn the computer off first and then reboot your computer? I have never had an SD card fail, nor have I lost data. I use these cards in other devices; from time to time I forget to turn off the device prior to removing the card, and the card works just fine. An added note; Formatting the device in the computer works just fine when put back into the camera.
If the format was different in the camera...then it would not be readable in the computer.
