Changes are coming from Google. I don't like having to access my phone to continue because I seldom have my phone turned on when I'm home. I have to find the phone, turn it on, and wait for it to boot.

Starting December 14, or soon after, when you try to sign in with a password, you'll need to complete a second step on your phone, so we can make sure it's really you signing in. After entering your password, you'll simply confirm a sign-in prompt on your phone or get a code to enter.

Virtually all the calls I receive on my cell phone are spam. I do receive useful texts, though.

Try installing RoboKiller. I’ve had it for a number of years with no issues. It has some interesting features. It may let one or two spams come through in a week, they are easily blocked.

Another thought, I have a magnetic charger by my bed. About the only time my phone is out of my pocket is at night, charges while I sleep.

I think they can send the second code to an email address, too.

I opt for the text message when possible.
Some places can take (and have) up to 4 hours to get me an email.........
More places are doing this for <added> security.

If caller ID shows something I don't recognize, I pick up and hang up. Hopefully, I don't miss legitimate calls. Why these calls are allowed, I can only guess.

Our Android phones have a thing called "Screen Caller." When you get a call from an unknown number, hit the "Screen Caller" button, it will read a canned paragraph to the caller about identifying yourself and the reason for your call. If the caller is legit, and responds, you can then connect. For spam calls, about 100% of the time the caller
(or the robot) hangs up.

That's interesting.

I like a phone call. It's usually immediate - landline.

What annoys me is when I think it might be legitimate, and I answer it. Then there is just silence.

Right, and that's when I hang up.
