"There is something about a [fill in the blank] that makes me grab for it, often leaving newer, more expensive cameras at home."

That is the essence of my question.

Please don't tell Paul, but I just like my D500. It is fully capable of dealing with every photographic situation, but it is also exactly the right size and weight, its functions are widely adjustable, and its controls are all in exactly the right place. I also have a D850 which can do quite a few more things, but the D500 is the camera.

I agree! With the battery grip my big arthritic hands find every button naturally. Points well with big glass and works well all of lenses.

OK - i'm a died-in-the-wool luddite, a cardholding member of the Grouchy Old Man Club, and i would yell at kids to get off my lawn, if any of them came this far into the wilderness to come onto my tiny little lawn ... it's mostly forrest anyway ...

My "go to" camera ia a Zone VI 4x5, but if that's not handy, i grab my RB67.

wow- curmudgeon time!!

A friend gave me a Canon 90D and I keep grabbing it when I go out. I like the built in focus stacking, the articulated screen, etc. The full frame bodies are gathering dust these days.

Pentax Spotmatic that I started out with back in 1975, I still have it but it doesn't meter internally anymore, so I use an external meter handheld. Then I got the Pentax Spotmatic ES2 with the meter still working today - but though it's an all-black beauty my first love is my first spotmatic, naturally. Usually I use a Nikon D800 today, also Bronica SQA and Mamiya 645 1000S.

In digital I've always loved the Canon 7D, though I shoot the Canon IDS Mark 111 still on the job for the L lenses.

My hat's off to you.I used RBs in my studio, but wouldn't select it for a tote around.

Strodav I agree with you. A few years ago I upgraded from the 3200 to the 7200. I have a 70-200 f4 and
Sigma 17-50 to go with it. I will probably pick up an ultra wide for some landcapes. Even with so much buzz about
mirrorlless and full frame I am very happy with my set up.

For digital, Olympus EM-5 Mark iii. I love the size, weight, and handling. To me, it is more reminiscent of the original Olympus OM-1 film camera than the new digital OM-1. For film cameras, the Nikon FM2n for ease of handling compared to larger Nikons. If I need a heftier body to support a long telephoto, I can just attach the motor drive.

My Sony A1, it just excels at everything a working professional needs to have, more so than all the Nikon, Canon and Leicas I have loved and owned in the past, just a fact.

Cheers and best to you.

Oops! Intended to attach this to the OP.
Time for bed.

If I go to a car show I take my Canon RP, the 24-105 zoom, a circular polarizer filter, and my Canon SX710HS for close up engine and interior shots. If I go to a model car show I leave the RP at home and take only the SX710HS. It will focus within one half inch and the depth of field is fantastic.

For Digital, I have 2.
My D80. I really liked the D200, so I picked up the D80 as a "spare".
It's close to a D200- maybe @ 95%. But it's the lighter "consumer" model.
My D600. I had Nikon refurbed during the shutter problems. My hands know what to do.
For Film, I have a few- all 120:
My little Zeiss Icon I can set as a point and shoot, fits in a pocket.
My Iskra- set and forget. wonderful pictures.
And my Kviv 60. Works like a MAN's 35mm. SWMBO (who is @ 11 inches shorter) says it looks "right on me-
until I get closer. Lenses (Pentacon6) are also wonderful.

Interesting. I have an RX10MIV and I use it fairly often. It’s my kayak camera. I love what I can get with it from a package that gives me a 24-600mm range at f/4 and excellent focus tracking. But it’s my least favorite camera and I never use it if I’m not kayaking. The ergonomics suck and I’m not a fan of electronic zoom.

My favorite camera is my Canon 5D4 - it just feels good and does everything well. Only complaint is the weight. However, I quite often grab the Sony RX10 iv, but like you hate the electronic zoom on it.

I love the M43 format it is my go-to hiking and adventure, travel, and carry around everyday camera. I had 3 OM-Ds EM-5 bodies and they are a bit fragile. All 3 failed after about 2 years. I have the new OM-1 and time will tell if it is more robust.

However my Nikon Z7 body is about the same size as the OM-1, however the lenses are bigger. Because of that the Z7 has displaced my OM-1 in some cases.

I am 73, I like the one digital I have but I really like the film cameras. I use, on a regular basis, a Pentax K-1000, a Konica Autoreflex T, and a Canon Elan 7ne. I am happy when either of those three are in my hand. Kind of weird... isn't it.

that does not seem weird to me. The camera you like is the camera you like.
