If your cropped sensor throws away half the image circle from the lens, you might as well poke out one of your eyes.

Half in area or half in diameter? Fortunately, the center of the image field created by the lens is usually the best resolution and MTF contrast. As a very experienced lens designer, I know the trades between central field and corner field resolution. As long as the lens produces resolution properly sampled by the detector, it's not poking out an eye but more like concentrating on the foveal resolution.

It would seem that when adapting FF optics onto smaller formats, I should hope to luck into lens designs where center zone quality was not compromised to improve the outer zone. This is the same reason that we dont use a 360mm Tele-Xenar on a Nikon rather than a 400mm Nikkor. A Tele-Xenar has an image circle big enough for 4x5.

Im not really worrying about FF lenses on Sony APSC, but using a FF 24mm WA as a normal on m4/3 seems to me ill advised. Likewise Canon EF-s lenses seem like very reasonable options for m4/3 (1.25x crop).

Walking away from the camera/lens issue itself, allow me, as an octogenarian, to recommend a Cotton Carrier harness. After several health issues, I found I no longer was comfortable with my regular way of carrying my camera which was a wrist strap. I have always detested neck straps, so I went looking for something else.

The Cotton Carrier allows all the camera weight on both shoulders and the torso core. The distribution makes a heavy kit pretty easy to handle. And the camera is kept in near the chest and does not swing about. I find I can walk about with my camera with a battery grip and a pretty heavy, "built-like-a-tank" vintage (1980s) lens.

There are alternatives to the CC, but I cannot speak to them as I really never looked at them. However, they are successful products and you may to consider them.

I have preached Cotton Carrier for years. I have relegated myself to the Sling Belt since at 87 I recognize the possibility of tripping on uneven ground or cobblestone streets and I don't want the camera between the ground and my chest. I carried a Nikon 7100 with a 18-140 lens around Paris for 6-7 hours a day without hardly noticings it.

But, I do shoot for that level of satire.

Due to health issues, I switched from a Canon 5Dmk3 and 8 lenses, to a mirrorless camera (APS-C) and only one lens. I switched to Digital in 2003. Back then, the sensors were horrible. That is no longer the case. Yes, you will need a faster lens to get the same results, but if you fully know your gears linitations, its easy to compensate.
I've had 9 digital bodies and only one was FF. Not once did a customer ask me about my sensor.

There's an old saying among hardware nuts that MIPS stands for Meaningless Indicator of Processor Speed. I've adapted that to Mpixels standing for Meaningless Indicator of Picture Excellence.

Successful photographers do the one thing the unsuccessful are unwilling to do: they always buy the camera with the most pixels.

Two pages back you made the exact same statement, but about full frame cameras. Are you getting sloppy, or are you satirizing your own satire?

That question is rhetorical.

Consider listening to the successful photographers when they talk about the equipment they use.

I’ve talked to a couple of pro photographers & didn’t hear them talk about pixels. Maybe I haven’t talked to enough of them. Will make it a point to talk about pixels next time I talk to one.
Oh; just wondering-how did professional photographers survive before there were a lot pixels? Hm.

Think back to when you knew nothing about 30 megapixel sensors. Would you still want to be that person?
