Totally different and far superior.

In checking it out it proves hardly different at all, and while clearly not "far superior" it does have a slight ergonomic advantage over other brands but a much larger advantage over the previos Canon models. So its an improvement.

Overall its good that Canon fixed their flaw in this way. I wish OM would take note of it. (If theyve finally seen the light, its newer than the EM1-III so I havent yet exprienced it.)

I accidentally set my R3 on FV once. Then I got frustrated because the camera wasn't doing what I wanted it to do. So I took it off FV. I do see its value, and I think there are times I'll really like it!

I wrote a while ago that I love the FV mode.
So glad you have posted that you like it as well.
That is what I leave my R7 set to as default mode. Makes everything right there instantly without having to go to various modes including manual.
How has it worked for you?

It is set up well and I can make changes quickly with good results. It took me a minute to learn how to change shutter speed.
FV actually gives me best of auto and allows me override control. Great feature Canon!

Why would you doubt it? Each of the priority settings have their place and do a very good job just as manual has it's place. Hopefully not hidden in this question is the age old snobism that only real photographers use manual?

I use manual a lot but it is not because "only real photrogaphers use manual". I shoot live theater and a shoot beauty pageants. If I follow the exposure in the viewfinder, I would over expose almost every shot. The stage lights fools the exposure meter on the R7 just like it did with my 7DII. I do have to make adjustments based on dress color and how many are wearing the same color dress. Crowning is done in white dresses and when 40+ girls are in white gowns, I adjust the fstop up and the iso down.

Certainly glad you brought it up. Could lead me to put a bit more mileage on my Canon than I otherwise would have.

So thanks for the heads up :-)

Sounds similar to shooting in manual and ISO set to auto.

I can't think of a situation where I would prioritise ISO over either of the other two variables. I don't have FV mode but if I did I'm pretty sure I'd just set it to give me the equivalent of M+AutoISO and just leave it there.

Even if I did want to force a value of ISO I'd just play it off against whichever of the other two variables I wanted to play it off against (which would usually be shutter speed, but it could be either, or both) - and all done in M+AutoISO. No need for anything else (especially since it doesn't rule out the possibility of exposure compensation).
I can't think of a situation where I would priorit... (show quote)

Indeed! I've used Manual with auto ISO and exposure compensation for many years, particularly for wildlife.

I tried the FV mode on my R7 and I like it. Has anyone else experimented with the FV mode? I would like to hear your reactions.
Thanks,

What's FV mode? Like Aperture? If so, 90% of my photography is done that way, Shutter priority, 5%, the rest, 5%.I used Manual for the first 40 years of my photography journey,'cause that's all we had. Digital makes us Dinosaurs dance and sing!

Flexible-priority mode provides greater freedom for quickly altering the camera settings, but without the need to change shooting mode. It allows you to choose which of the three exposure values (shutter speed, aperture and ISO) you want to control, while the camera takes care of the rest.
It takes a bit to get used to it but a great addition.
