You know as well as the rest of us he's going to be a very special friend.

However your post reminded me of when my wife and I got back from holiday to find a German Shepherd had been using our yard as a toilet. After we'd been back a few days it got worse, he started bringing his dog with him!!!!!!!
Ha, Ha! Good one!

Enjoy your time with him. Train him well. He looks healthy and happy.
Thank You! Fortunately, we have plenty of time and a lot of help for his training. So far so good. We are also very lucky in that he seems to know even at his young age, to be gentle with little children.

He is just beautiful! I am a dog lover now with an empty house. I "borrow" from my neighbors for regular walks and occasional "sleep overs." I am betting, now, you wonder how you ever got along without this very handsome fellow!! I am envious!
Thank you for your kind comments. Several years ago I lost my best friend due to old age. He was a black lab- French Mastiff mix and he was a pure joy. I thought I would not get over it. Well... surprise, surprise!

My Border Collies favorite toy is the Hedgehog, exactly the same as yours. Trooper's treatment of the toy is pouncing, and then doing what a gator does with their prey. Had to sew on its legs several times.

Congratulations! My wife and I have had German Shepherd dogs and they are wonderful companions. Training is needed and they need a job, something to do. If you don’t pick something, they will so you had better do the picking 😊. Some are more prey oriented and some do not tolerate other animals and people well. However they are very trainable though.

Let Grandma do it. Grandpa seems rather well trained.

On October 1st of this year, I officially retired. This was on a Sunday. On this same day, my wife and oldest daughter conspired to get me a puppy (like I really wanted a puppy-not). They went to a local rescue shelter and got a purebred German Shepherd puppy. That's a rarity since most shelter dogs seem to have Pit Bull heads.

Anyway, he is 5 months old now and yesterday we took him to the vet for his 2nd set of shots. Then my wife wanted to go to the pet store on the way home to pick up some kitty litter. We took him in with us and my wife got the bright idea to let him pick out a toy. He has plenty already. I should also mention that he has squeak toys. Too me, this is very embarrassing because a German Shepherd with a squeak toy in his mouth? This is hideous.

Well, guess what he picked out? It has a squeaker that sounds like an oinking pig. God help me.
On October 1st of this year, I officially retired.... (show quote)

Congrats on the beginning of your Golden Years season, Tainks! And on your new friend too!
