I know this is kind of stupid but...
On October 1st of this year, I officially retired. This was on a Sunday. On this same day, my wife and oldest daughter conspired to get me a puppy (like I really wanted a puppy-not). They went to a local rescue shelter and got a purebred German Shepherd puppy. That's a rarity since most shelter dogs seem to have Pit Bull heads.
Anyway, he is 5 months old now and yesterday we took him to the vet for his 2nd set of shots. Then my wife wanted to go to the pet store on the way home to pick up some kitty litter. We took him in with us and my wife got the bright idea to let him pick out a toy. He has plenty already. I should also mention that he has squeak toys. Too me, this is very embarrassing because a German Shepherd with a squeak toy in his mouth? This is hideous.
Well, guess what he picked out? It has a squeaker that sounds like an oinking pig. God help me.

Yup, he is your dog alright. Plush Hedgehog. Sorry, I had to correct that to "German Shepherd Dog". It is written like that for some reason. All I have ever been able to figure, is to not offend German People who do herding.
Our two Hounds would tare it open in no time to get the squeaker out to play with. I think they practice hunting and "killing" instinctively even though we have never hunted with them, they are both house pets.

Treat him well. German Shepherd Dogs behave and train better and more easily than many breeds.

He is a beauty Tom. Some dogs love a squeaky toy, we bought two yesterday for our sons Lab, she is three but still likes a comforter.
Oh, wow! A canine UHH’er! Congrats on the retirement, Tom… And, enjoy your new buddy. This is gonna be great fun. 👍👍
Shepherds are wonderful dogs. He looks like a real cutie!
Socialize him with people outside of the family. I knew a guy whose shepherd looked at you like he wanted to take your head off. And he would. Nobody wants to be around something like that. Yet I've had other friends who had shepherds that were real sweethearts. He looks like a sweetie.
So…yeah. 3 months after I retired 4 years ago, wife adopted two dogs: Sporty, some hound mix, 8 months old, and Brownie, chihuahua mix, 11 years old. Thanks. Yes, I love them both (but we lost Brownie last year), but Sporty is just too much energy for me and I really don’t want to spend the time.
Be happy your dog has a toy s/he is happy with. Sporty doesn’t seem attached to anything, although we did have a similar hedgehog toy.
But…congratulations on retiring.
