Nice shots, I'd keep your camera several of the shots are soft.

All these shots were taken quickly on auto, some while moving. Now I'll have time to use different settings and higher resolution. But yes, I'm keeping the 80D. Thanks for your reply.

Yes, and when I'm planning on printing ones, I'll use higher resolution. These were all taken on lowest resolution.

IT s like driving a 2000 camry or a 2000 MB , the camry is a much better/reliable car at the fraction of the cost , but the MB driver will never agree with that .Same with camera .

Thanks for the memories of Astor Bridge and the weir going into Lake George.

You're welcome.

I lived in Florida from 69 to 89, always had a boat and the St Johns River was my favorite place for boating. Silver Glen Springs was always the destination after putting in by the I-4 bridge at the park. Spent many days at the Glen with groups of us all camping in our boats. Every time we go back to visit family and friends we put in at Astor and head to the Glen.

I have the same gear - Canon 80D and Samsung 23 Ultra+, but while I have the phone with me all the time and it does a great job at photos, it falls apart zooming in and some photos look a bit "plastic-like - skin is smoothed out". I don't use the 80D that much these days since I got the R5 about 3 years ago, but I am not ready to give up on it yet.

For hiking the phone is usually the best option due to weight and size. For wildlife that is far away, the phone just doesn't cut it.

Traveling abroad, I just take a lightweight compact/bridge camera and the phone is always there for most of the photo ops.

Anyway, I decided to keep the 80D for several reasons; it has a viewfinder, it's easier to steady and shoot, when needed I can hold and shoot with one hand, I like the feel of it, and if I sold it I'd miss it. But to lighten my hiking load I'll use the cell phone. Same with air-travel as we only take carry-on even on long stays.

I think that it is a great compromise. Use it until your granddaughter develops a serious interest, you can still use it.

Thanks for that.

Unfortunately, the lens I'd like to get for my 80D is more than I want to spend.

I've already decided to keep my 80D but like you said I always have the phone with me. I have had time to practice with it and am getting better with its options.

And that photo of the gator I took was from a moving boat, zoomed and cropped so not the clearest but other zoomed in shots were surprisingly clear. Bottom line, I'm happy with both.

I recently upgraded our cell phones to the Samsung s23 Ultra. The photos are coming out better than my Canon 80D. I'm sure there are cameras that are better, but they are out of my price range. I like having a great camera that's always with me. I do miss having a viewfinder, but this screen is bright enough for viewing in bright sunlight. So, I'm considering selling my 80D and lenses. Any thoughts on my doing that? Would I regret it later?

Here are a few of the over 500 shots I took on my recent Florida trip and some from my deck after returning. All these were handheld and on full automatic on the phones lowest setting. I haven't tried manual or the 200 MPs yet, but these even look great on our 65" TV. What do you think about the quality of the photos?

Thanks.

I've hiked on Mt Rainier many times over the decades, anymore the 80D and lens is too heavy and clumsy to carry, main reason for upgrading my phone.

We live 17 miles from the park entrance, then another 17 miles up to Paradise. I took these from Paradise last weekend, but no hike because it was too crowded. Unfortunately, the road to Paradise for this winter season is only opened on weekends due to staffing shortages. I used to go during the week to avoid the crowds. I'm not happy about this change.
