There is research out there showing that people who tend to believe in a wacky thing will likely believe in more than one wacky thing. I don't know if one needs a "study" to discover that, but someone had a good time finding that out I guess.
Let's see. ... Because of my academic background, I was visited once by a man who was absolutely certain that this stringy green stuff that he collected in road ditches was part of some "sinister" plot from the U.S. government. He ran a private radio show that would put out all manner of pseudoscience and conspiracy theories, so he was a textbook case of the above pattern. Anyway, he was pretty excited about this green goo, and was planning to quote me for his show. After some study under a microscope, I was able to show him that this material was filamentous algae (probably because road ditches get flooded from time to time). He became quite angry and accused me of not having an open mind.

Good thing that NASA now has a bunch of competitors. One point of contention though. NASA was not run by ex-Nazis, but it sure employed a lot of them in the beginning of the program. Granted, they had a great deal of influence on the direction that NASA took throughout the 50's, 60's and the 70's and titular control of the program through Wernher von Braun but they did not directly manage it.

But can you be certain that the "filamentous algae" was not being used by the government for some nefarious purpose? I am joking of course but that is how conspiracies tend to propagate and thrive.

Seems like I read once that the Flat Earth Society is headquartered in the UK. From what I know of the British sense of humor, I wonder if the whole thing is just a big joke.

Good point maybe some of them were deprived I don’t know I don’t think I’ve ever met any but I’ve seen some videos about them in their conferences. I just find it hard to believe anybody can believe in such a bunch of BS.
About 30 years ago I had met some of the sovereign citizen people. Some of them were pretty sharp and some of them were just out in left field. They wanted something for nothing and didn’t want to accept responsibility for anything. Oh well we have all kinds out here.

Years ago I met a genuine, sincere Flat-Earther. He said a quarter is a good example of what the earth really looks like. He just dismissed my reply that I had flown around the world three times, east to west and vice versa, and never saw edges like on a quarter. To him, I was the delusional one.
