Hello. I need to replace my laptop. I use my computer for general purposes and to store and edit my digital photos. I don't do sophisticated post processing of photos. The budget is $1000. Any suggestions? Thanks
I originally thought desktop.
Have you checked Costco.com?
(I just got a new desktop at Costco.)

That's ok. I am also considering a desktop. Thanks for your suggestion.

Thanks. Apparently there is more value in a desk top relative to a laptop.

Primarily, desktops are faster, more storage.
Laptops are portable.
Luckily, my wife and I both have laptops.
I do the majority of my photo and web work (not all) on the desktop which is upstairs in the office because of the dual monitors.
Our laptops live in the family room.
Have fun deciding.
What would huggers consider for the requirements for a new computer used for photo processing.
Processor graphics card. Ram, hard drive for a lap top or desk top.
I'm a window guy.
My desk top win 7 and I have laptop win 10 which I've never mastered as I go back to my trusty win 7 machine. If I'm learning new I'll learn win 11.

It depends on individual desires/requirements...
I've been working with computers for 50 years, so I simply bought the off-the-shelf (OTS) HP desktop indicated above. It meets
my needs and desires. But everyone is different.
My laptop is a year old OTS HP with 11th Gen Intel Core i5-1155G7; 12GB RAM; and a 512GB SSD; Win 11.
Yea, both the desktop and laptop have some kind of graphics thingy in them.
If you know an IT guy you might consider getting them to build one for you. May save a couple of $$$.
Don
Several add-on programs like Topaz are requiring a dedicated GPU (graphics card) with at least 8GB RAM.
....and I daresay many of the editing programs as they go more and more for AI and need that extra graphics horsepower, will head in that direction as well.
Many "gaming" computers are built with dedicated GPU.
So, if you want to stay ahead of the curve and have the ability to see real time the effect as you move the slider, then consider a machine with a dedicated GPU. It is not absolutely necessary but I would recommend looking into it for long term.
