You judge yourself too harshly. I enjoyed your whole set of images.

Nothing rong with these images you captured, Jo.
And your artwork on your mailbox and birdhouses are exquisite.

Should I put my terrible pictures here among all these great photos you all keep showing? Probably not but as I tell my art students...."No matter what you do, there will always be some better at it than you are and some who are worse".
As an artist I don't always strive to do my best. I slop around with it just for fun sometimes, as you will see now.
MOST all of my photography is slop around, but in my mind, I keep telling myself the same thing I tell my art students. (surely there are some worse.)

Keep doing, your photos are excellent.

Jo I know you will get all sorts of answers here and that is great. Everyone has an opinion. But my longtime photography mentor and professional photographer, let's call him Bob, well because that is his name, has ALWAYS told me, submit only your best work. I have tried to do just that with my submissions.

That does not mean your work may not be inferior to what others share. Your work may be superior in quality to what others submit. But that is for them to decide. Only submit YOUR best work. Why would anyone submit less than their best?

Every day on UHH I see photographs submitted that are not composed properly, out of focus, uninteresting subject matter and so on. Yet other members rave about the photo, great capture Fred, tremendous composition, colorful and so on. We all are guilty of doing that. I continue to wonder if it would not be more beneficial to the photographer IF we tried to give some honest criticism so that person would learn something rather than think, I submitted a great photograph.

My answer then is to only submit your best work.

Dennis

I think all of us feel that our work somehow comes up short. After looking at Ed Brown's gorgeous flowers, I hesitate to post my flower shots. After looking at Bob Malarz' beautiful clouds, mine looked a bit mundane. Joe's bird shots blow me away while I get black blobs. Beth's animal shots are so beautiful, and I thought mine were good! Not!

There is always someone who is better. And, always someone worse. That's what you told your students, right? I study those who do it so well and try to learn from them. I compare myself to those who don't do it so well and know that I've come a long way.

I like your pictures. Are they the best ones posted? No. Are they interesting? Yes! Keep posting!

I think you are being too hard on yourself, Horseart. My wife say's I'm a perfectionist. If I really was, I would never post anything!

I am guessing you were a perfectionist at choosing your wife.

I also agree with your comment to Jo.

Great series, Jo. I have been drawing since I was 5, graduated to painting in my early 20s, never took lessons. I was a hobby for me because I loved it, First off, I painted for myself, then for family and friends, Now at 80, I can
not do it anymore, my hands are too shaky. My point is that if you love what you do, that's all that matters.
My son says John Wayne is the best painting that I have ever done.

We had 77 horses and these were some of my favorites. I paint more horses than anything else and my customers are almost all horse owners. I paint a lot for horse training barns and did wall murals for 33 years. I have sold numerous prints of both. The yellow house is i my own collection.

Ok young lady; Listen to me Ok. I too have reservations about sharing photos sometimes because I KNOW mine are not the very well images I see here. Some are not. Images I take are for capturing a moment for memory and sharing instead of focusing on perfect photographic technique. I never let this hold me back, I post what I want to and if it not pretty to some, so what, I don't care.
Now let me get to you.
First of all I have looked at your work on your site. You got NOTHING AT ALL to be worried about.
You are an honest and true artist. Period.
Second of all, you images are as good as anyone can get. They are sharp, clear, excellently captured. Period.
I know how you feel but you got nuth'n to be concerned about.
Post away sister, your stuff is appreciated.
Your heart felt concern about your work is the heart of a true artist.
Bruce.

Thank you for the kind words Bruce. MUCH appreciated.
Just like all artists and all photographers, I will try as hard as I can and then "it is what it is". I guess that's all any of us can do, but some encouragement along the way always makes one feel better.
