To do or not to do, that is the question...

I have struggled with this question for several days. I envy every one of you!!!
Should I put my terrible pictures here among all these great photos you all keep showing? Probably not but as I tell my art students...."No matter what you do, there will always be some better at it than you are and some who are worse".
As an artist I don't always strive to do my best. I slop around with it just for fun sometimes, as you will see now.
MOST all of my photography is slop around, but in my mind, I keep telling myself the same thing I tell my art students. (surely there are some worse.)

Rest assured that anyone who does not admire all of your great captures will have have a lousy reason as to why!

God was taking a morning walk and saw a doctor crying by the road. Why are you crying? God asked the doctor and he replied, I've studied in the best school and was the best but I could not cure everything.
Be glad, from now on, you will cure any disease.
And the doctor was happy.

Further on God saw an engineer and he was unhappy. God asked the man, "what bothers you?"
I am the best engineer in the world, yet there are things i could not build because they fail.
Be glad, God said, from now on, you will be able to build what you want and it will stand till the end of time.
And the engineer was happy.

At the end of Gods walk, there was an artist, softly crying to the sunset.
Why do you cry? God asked. I am the best artist in the history of mankind, yet even my best is not enough. Not everyone find it beautiful.
God was silent, sat with the artist and they cried together....

That my friend is the nature of art.

There would always be someone not impressed.
Just do what you love and share it if you can.
Because there will also be someone who will cherish it with their hearts.

Nice!! Love the bird houses and your mailbox!! I really like your clematis photo!!

As a teacher I'm sure you've imparted to your students that they should study theory, practice technique, then practice some more.

One thing I find extremely helpful when I am working on improvement is to ask the opinion of others. They will see what I miss and this gives me opportunity to practice some more.

Thank you for that encouragement. I love painting and photography both...probably EQUALLY, but my photography lacks so much. My artwork works well for me and sells quickly. I have painted for 81 years (since I was 4). The slopping paintings are for fun, the serious paintings are for work. I sell some photos too, but I try to keep that fun and that may be why it's sloppy.... Thanks to the encouragement of people like you, I will continue to try to improve.

Thank you Dodie. You are exactly right about practice. I tell my student that each time they paint, it gets a little better, so practice. I don't find it that simple in photography.

I love to see people paint when they were so sure they could not. It amazes them to learn that they can do it. I believe everyone can paint, some just don't know it YET.

I'm not thinking everyone could be a good photographer. LOL!...and YES, I accept all opinions too, the good, the bad and the ugly.

As another artist, I've taken the same path, challenges and experiences.

Camera, computer, pencil or paint, I just treat them as tools of expression.
Practice with direction is the key. Focus on your weakness first and grow with more rounded capability.

I used to teach animation, drawing & painting. For some time I also taught martial arts.
For now they are distant memories for although I still love teaching the way, the knees have their own minds now

This is my daughter during my last vacation (I get to be with the family only 30 days a year) while we play painted.

There is so much to tell and teach but so little time. We just make do with what we got.

Life is short, let us make good memories.

Ok young lady; Listen to me Ok. I too have reservations about sharing photos sometimes because I KNOW mine are not the very well images I see here. Some are not. Images I take are for capturing a moment for memory and sharing instead of focusing on perfect photographic technique. I never let this hold me back, I post what I want to and if it not pretty to some, so what, I don't care.
Now let me get to you.
First of all I have looked at your work on your site. You got NOTHING AT ALL to be worried about.
You are an honest and true artist. Period.
Second of all, you images are as good as anyone can get. They are sharp, clear, excellently captured. Period.
I know how you feel but you got nuth'n to be concerned about.
Post away sister, your stuff is appreciated.
Your heart felt concern about your work is the heart of a true artist.
Bruce.
