Swallow locations
1. 2 o'clock a couple of inches from the green bush near top left
2. Nearly straight across from #1 to a couple of inches from right edge of frame (below rust-colored lichen) is a silhouette. Could be shadow, but from sun location, am pretty sure it's a silhouette.
3. Lower right side, below some yellow lichen. Wings are almost invisible, so look for a white belly

Which one did you find? I wouldn't be surprised if there are more than three!
Thanks for your interest, Jack! br br Swallow loc... (show quote)

11 o'clock, just down from the top and just to the right of the left edge.

OK, I thought you meant my #1, but maybe not. I have circled and posted the three I see:

This is awesome, Linda, and a good reminder to stop and look at scenes we pass everyday. Unexpected colors, wonderful textures and the birds lend us a perspective as to just how massive the rocks are. Well done.

Basalt rock formations can be millions of years old. Lichen (at least three species are in this photo) can live thousands of years. The three swallows flying here are probably four years old. The bright green of these rock-clinging plants grew in a couple of months. Nature is awesome.

I love every aspect of this and especially your thoughts about the relativity of time, which made my geologic tail wag! Beautifully seen and captured my friend.

You're sooooo right. Some of my relatives are absolutely ancient.

Interesting shot, colours and textures, all as others have said Linda. I struggled to find the birds though and thought you’d inadvertently included a dead seabird when I spotted an extended lone wing! Later I realised it was joined to a bird in flight!!

Thanks for playing along, Dave When I started thinking about all the life forms supported on that rock formation, and the age of basalt, I became more appreciative of what I'd seen and photographed.

Enjoyed your natural abstract. It was tough, but also found those 3 little swallows.
